Your greatest gaming achievement... - May 31, 2006 08:51
I think the thread title is self-explanatory.

For me, the first thing that comes to mind is getting the Invisibility cheat in GoldenEye.
I was pretty chuffed about that.

I' m also fond of this fight I' ve got saved in VF5, where, playing as Kage, I was kicking Akira' s ass in all kinds of ways.

Beating the Neo-Geo MVS version of Nam 1975 without dying.. Way back then I always thought that game magazine reviewers/editors had these godlike gaming skills beyond those of mere mortals. So when the editors of GameFan magazine mentioned how it took them $5 to beat Nam 1975 I began to realize that maybe they weren' t really gaming gods among mortal men after all.

I' ve beaten other games without dying like R-Type Final but to be fair, R-Type Final was insultingly easy making the achievement less than special.

I think another one of my greatest gaming achievements was sitting back and watching the rest of the gaming world tear their hair from their scalp while struggling through Ghouls n Ghosts and Super Ghouls n Ghosts, and being forced to play through the games twice before being allowed to battle the final boss, WHILE I simply just used level select codes to warp to the final bosses of the games, beat them and watch the end credits scroll without having bothered breaking a sweat ;).

Easy one.

When I was in my military school our barracks had a Street fighter 2 machine in the lounge. I put myself of a strict regimen of one quarter per day, everyday, never more than one game per day.

My longest streak was 49 days without losing a single round.

F*cking Zangief broke my winning streak.

Hmm, that is a toughie...beating Halo 1 and 2 on Legendary was a nice achievement. I think beating MK2 alone was an achievement...but the biggest has to be playing all the way through Splatterhouse :)

Perhaps playing through Super Monkeyball on Expert without continuing. Everyone always claims that this game is hard, but I don' t think so. It is easy.

The first that comes to my mind is legend of zelda link to the past, the room where for the first time you have to light the lapms to push the wall back (my brother couldn' t figure it out) and I did quick enough.....I was so happy just for that....(easily made happy).

Completing Gun Valkyrie, with those very bad controls but addictive gameplay.

Getting all A' s on Sonic Adventure 2.

Getting all moves (Yes, including throw moves) up to Advanced on Shenmue 1.

Completing Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox on Very Hard, without dying.

I' ll think of a few more. I' m at work..

If it tell you it,mankind would never be the same again.

Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

If it tell you it,mankind would never be the same again.

If it' s any of the following:

Completed Pokemon in the bath.
Completed DOA story mode whilst having sex.
Played Shenmue in direct accordance with your daily life.
Completed Final Fantasy 10 whilst reciting " We are the Champions" over and over
again.

THEN mankind will not be the same..

Not using the disc as a frisbee, after a particulary infuriating session on Ninja Gaiden.

I was also pretty proud at myself for achieving a silent asassain rating on the wonderful Hitman: Blood Money.

There' s more, but I just can' t think of them, honest

Playing Raven Shield Online, running quickly from the start location, up to a hall way, having my trusty TMP in hand, as i see the door in the other end of the hall open, with 7 enemies (8 in all in the opposit team) struggling to get through the door. i open fire on them, emptying all 31 rounds into the mass of bodies, putting 4 down, they still struggle to get through the door, i quickly reload and empty another 31 rounds into the remaining 3, dropping them all!

I end the round by tracking down the last one, and killing him, having all 8 kills in one round!

Entered a GT4 comp once to post the best time possible on Nordschleife. The prize was free tickets to visit the LeMan 24 Hours race that year, so I really wanted to win.

The times were only going to be announced after the comp had ended, so I was looking at times on GTPlanet' s leaderboard to give me an idea of what I had to get. I setup my chair and TV in the ideal position, and even watched videos of quick laps on the net!

After maybe a week of continuous and frustrating attempts to get a perfect lap, I managed to achieve a 5:13 in the Minolta Toyota LeMan Race Car (the fastest car in the game). This wasnt easy to say the least. It was a task just keeping the car on the road at top speed!

Well, with this time I' d managed to beat the best time in the world on GTPlanet by a few milliseconds and I was pretty chuffed about it! But when it came to unveiling the times for the comp, it seems the added motivation to win the tickets produced about a dozen times quicker than mine!

The winner achieved a 5:08 or something rediculously quick that I' d have never been able to beat in a million years! I' ve now come to realise that, no matter how good I get at a game, there' s always someone better than me! [:' (] (And I make myself feel better by accusing them all of cheating, hehe. )

Therefore I shall spare you from this ultima… Huh?! You still want to know?!! Well, um… Holy crap! Look over there… It’s a mutant mini T-Rex/dog soldier with laser weapons!!! *Points finger then runs away*

1:58.66 seconds for a time trial on Mute City 1 for the original f-zero. It was the world record for a long long time, but since has been beaten. Funny thing is, I used to do that course sooooooo often, that recently my cousin brought down a SNES with f-zero, and after not having played it for over 10 years, it only took me 2 races to get back to sub 1:59 times. It was like I was 15 all over again.

Cant think of many right now but one that springs to mind is getting 143 wins on Tekken 5 survival mode.

Another one would probably be finishing Mario 3 in 48 minutes without using whistles but skipped some levels to be fair.

Another one would be finishing Shenmue 1 in 10 hours, dunno how quick that is but thats just a few i can think of right now.

At an AGP Halo 1 tournament in Chicago during free play I played a free for all game with the ogres and killed Ogre 1 twice and raped his corpse.

I can' t really think of anything better that I' ve done. I guess there are a bunch of things impressive to other people but not to me personally.

I didn' t die during very hard; I' ll explain..

All my trial and error was done in Normal and Hard; where I made my mistakes.

I wacked those out so much that I clocked up about 80 hours just having fun and
learning the boss routines (as best as I could, because I was bloody surprised
when I got to very hard mode!). If you mean did I use a talisman of rebirth, then
yes; but only delibrately.

Now here comes the part where you think I am chatting sh*t...

I didn' t have X-box live at the time, and the X-box is broken that I used, so couldn' t rank, although my points weren' t
very high though, I managed to do it without dying. I am currently in the middle of Very Hard Mode on my 360

Ninja Gaiden Black however is a COMPLETELY different story, I have only
done it up to Hard..

...yeah, i was just about to post asking about which version of NG you were talking about...

....i completed normal on the original, then bought NGB and went straight into hard mode (the first hurricane pack)....

...IT' S F*CKING HARD!!!... ...to the point that dying every 5 minutes and continuing is PART of the gameplay, so you' ll understand why i was like, " wtf is this guy on?" ....

The story mode is fine... the Hurricane Packs however GODDAMN!!

I can' t wait for Gaiden 2..

Another achievement is being able to do the levers/ switches level after you fight
Doku, WITHOUT USING ANY SWITCHES!!!!! (you know the part where you
have to pull and push so many levers to move platforms)

I am quite proud of myself...

ORIGINAL: Tiz

Getting all moves (Yes, including throw moves) up to Advanced on Shenmue 1.

How do you practice the throw moves? You can' t execute them without facing enemies. And it' s really hard to do some of those moves. Did you simply focus the training on throw moves in the training options and let them level up automatically?

Yeah i too have collected all the dog tags on MGS2, had to go through it like a good 5 times to get it done though! Still haven' t attempted MGS3 on European Assault mode.

Oh and another major gaming achievement for me was playing in a Soul Calibur tournament in the Playstation Experience UK back in 2001. I had to win the London finals to qualify for the UK finals, funnily enough the guy who came runner up in the London final was the same guy who beat me in the UK final (wait? that aint funny thats sad) i was so gutted.
