Here' s an IGN article about that rumour with answers from SquareEnix:
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/709/709775p1.aspx

Square Enix says
" Since the FINAL FANTASY VII tech demo at E3 2005, there have been a lot of rumors about the presentation hinting at an actual remake. While the June 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly confirms the remake for release in 2007, Square Enix has never stated this.

We have however confirmed that development has begun for Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII on PlayStation 3. These titles are part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis Project which also includes a mobile game titled FINAL FANTASY Agito XIII."

And IGN ends the article with:
" Does Square Enix' s statements mean that the possibility of a Final Fantasy VII remake is zero? To the hopeful, definitely not. But what it does mean is, that as of right now, the Japanese giant has not confirmed or stated that the game is real in any official or documented capacity.

More as it develops, as we' re sure we haven' t heard the last of this just yet."

I think it' s just a rumour - and it' s been the same rumour for years and it' s always bullshit.

FF6 had a tech demo for n64,FF8 a tech demo for ps2,people talked about remakes even then, has everyone forgot that?

Ofc,FF7 is the most sold FF game, and ofc has got movies, and mini games...

Btw,kitase' s Dirge cerbues got 28/40 in famitsu,looks crap,stop milkin FF7.
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

I know, this isn' t really a good sign for Crisis Core...

Trailer for DoC looks good though. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-7985073303233220183

I' ve said this before, but, why do people want a remake of FF7 so badly, if they' ve already played the PS1 version? Personally, I think it' s fine as it is, and I' ll just stick the CD in a PS2 and play it through again if I want to re-experience it.

If I want to see FF7 with better graphics, I' ll stick on Advent Children.

I don' t think many people agree with me though, heh. [:' (]

I' ve played and finished it. If you ask me, it' s nothing great... Not bad, but not good either. I' m a FF fan, so... Dissapointed.

I have FFVII Ultima Edition on my PC. I love it
I have my hopes high for Crisis Core but Dirge of Cerberus doesn' t interest me that much. It wasn' t only the story in FFVII that I liked. The gameplay was awesome to and to see some FF games go away from that great RPG gameplay really pains me.

FF7 feels horrible to play with a keyboard...

You get used to it. But of course it' s miles away from being as comfortable as a controller.
I like the goodies you get with the PC version as well as the ability to watch all the movie sequences.

Well I, for one, WOULD like a remake of FFVII, for the simple fact that I' ve never played through it. I played it for about 5 minutes about a year ago, and it just did nothing for me. I' d like to experience what everyone loves about it so much, but, as it is, it just seems like an outdated relic. I' m sure that if you loved the game initially, then there' s a feeling of nostalgia that you get if you pop it in now, but...

Guess you had to be there!

Got a point there. I suppose even the games that last, don' t age as well as movies do.

All the young people who wasn' t playing games during the 32-bit era deserve a chance to play FFVII.
FFVII is a game every generation of gamers should' ve played, not just the ones who were gamers when FFVII was released.
