Hmm that really sounds great, I start to believe in the merging between computer and tv now.
I am getting that exact samsung they use for 360 stands, just 32" .

But there is one thing you say that confuses me, and im tired of being confused of it lol, i have tried understanding it but feel completely stupid.
Its about your " tv supports resolitions of 720 and 1080i" . And this equals 1920x1280. Cause what I would think is that 720 equals 720x600-something resolution, and 1080i equals 1080x800-something in resolution?
My CRT 19" is capable of 1600x1200, and thats the resolution i would like to use, or something near it, if i were to buy this samsung tv as a monitor.
So if you are right about the resolution you mentioned, that wont be a problem at all then, it will work perfectly and flawlessly as a full featured pc monitor?

the thing you are confused about is simple really, allow me to enlighten you on this...

The 720 and 1080 refers more to the second set of digits 1920x1080 and i believe true 720 is 1360x720.... or so samsung have me believe, but otherwise 1024x768.

The thing is I' m not sure how you are intent on linking your pc to the tv, in the samsung manual (btw mine is the 32inch of those in the shops - got mine super cheap offical too) it says that when you connect via the vga, to set the resolution to 1360x768. From this i gather that it is all it will accept. However if you have a dvi out port on your gfx card, get a dvi-hdmi cable and your options (in single display mode) go up to 1080i

no,720p=1280' 720.

and 1080p 1920' 1080.

And no,you cant use 1600' 1200 to your xbox360/ps3 games.

They opimitiz the game to work in a resolution, basically 720p for 360.

1600' 1200 she uses this for her monitor, and wants to use the tv as such.... And about resolution of 720... im not so sure, but most 720 tvs release these days with 1366x720... anyway not too fussed really

hmm, yeah 1600 was for the computer, but can you put it in that, or are the resolutions you mentioned the only two options?

360 supports...

640x240 interlaced
(640x480 effective)

640x480

848x480

1024x768

1280x720

1280x768

1360x768

1280x1024

1920x540 interlaced (using component cables only)
(1920x1080 effective)

...so your 360 takes the resolution and crops or scales it to fit. MOst HDTV owners don' t have a thing to worry about because they are widescreen, bt for people using monitors to play in HD (like me), it can sometimes result in a distorted picture because the pixels of 5:4 monitors (most 17" , 18" and 19" ) are rectangular, not square. They sometimes (not always) require manual correction.

My monitor has a native resolution of 1280 x 1024, and though my PC can display 1280 x 720, using the monitor with my 360 i can' t get a picture. I have to select 1280 x 1024 and let it scale it accordingly down to 720p.

I know that wasn' t relevant, but i hate TV' s and i still wanted to post something. You don' t like it?! Bite me!

Why not get a widescreen monitor, Majik?

The samsung tv should work well with your PC cetra. It won' t do 1600x1200p like your CRT but it should be able to interlace up to that I think. Whenever I' ve seen that TV though on 360 stands in shops, the image quality has been poor. The image is always too dark. Does that happen on yours ummai?

This may be a stupid question but.... The max res on the Samsung is 1366x768. In 1080i it interlaces the vertical lines so 540 becomes 1080, but how does it fit the 1920 horizontal lines? Or are they interlaced as well?

And I hate how some 360 demo' s and games don' t display properly on my PC monitor. Sometimes none of the resolutions result in a picture that isn' t distorted somehow. The only game I' ve managed to achieve fullscreen 5:4 on is GRAW multiplayer. If they' d only put in a dashboard option to manipulate the image aspect ratio, not just res and ' widescreen' .

I think I' ll take Chee Saw' s advice and get a widescreen monitor next though. I' ve got my eye on a few which should double up as HDTVs too.

The samsung lcd hd tv' s are one of the absolute best out there. The only tv' s above is Philips, and some few Pioneer tv' s.

The samsung tv' s also have an own game mode, that enhances darkened areas and shadows, greatens the sharpness, and puts itself on max responce time.

There is so much new technology coming in hdtv screen, sed for one, i think that as next gen is fully here, adoption rate will increase and prices will fall. I only got a HDTV so early (Given I have no next gen system) because it only cost me about £250-£300

Well my 23" TFT is widescreen, but the one i was using previously was a 19" 5:4 CRT and i had the same problems with game demo' s (Moto GP specifically) not showing correctly.

Since i' m now using a widescreen monitor, everythings perfect, but even when i was using a 5:4 monitor, it only took a few seconds to manually correct the image.

However, i' d like to confirm that if i select 1280x1024 from the 360' s display menu, ...it will scale it down to 720p right?! I' m now using 1360x786 which is 720p, but i' m still curious about what happens to people who select 1280x1024 when using a 5:4 monitor.

What pisses me off is those SONY PR guys talking about the value of a blu-ray player.
First of all,i dont know who gonna win the next gen DVD war,HD-DVD or BLU-RAY second there is no great movies that make me say,wow i gotta have HD-DVD/BLU-RAY anytime soon.

Second they talk about price value, well even DVD could cost 1000 dollars when it first came to europe as with blu-ray,and now i can buy one for like 50-100 dollars.

Dont talk about value and compare the price when Blu_RAY IS NEW.
Stop comparing a new product and talk about value, when blu-ray is worth getting its price wont be near of whatthey compare with today.

Who here gonna buy a blu-ray player for 1000 dollars?
Or see the need of a blu-ray movie players for this or next year-

Nah thanks, these pr guys like the latest kikizo did anews about pisses me off.

im really happy to get a bluray player included, then i wont have to worry about the future. Also 80% of hollywoods comapnies(was it?) are releasing movies on bluray in the following time after launch.

All our movies were still on VHS when DVD came out. VCDs never really took off over here, so there was a big incentive to get a DVD player over a VHS cassette player, for me at least.

This time round, I' m more than happy with the current DVD quality. You can even get some superbit DVDs which do without the extra features to increase the quality slightly.

But HD movies aren' t really high on my list of things to get into atm. Not only do I agree with what Quez said, but I' m just not interested in a Blu-Ray or an HD-DVD player at the moment... I mean Blu-Ray may as well go the way of the UMD for me, for now at least. [:' (]

And Majik: whenever I use 1280x1024 it defaults to letterboxed 720p on my 5:4 monitor. Is that what you meant?
