$250 for a Wii? - May 13, 2006 05:01
Do you think this is a good price? I have heard rumors of this price around the net and what to hear what you think.

Personaly i do think this is a decent price for a new console, but could it be a little over priced? it isnt the most high tech peice of equipment ever, and since it is only an extension of gamecube hardware, [which sell for less than 100 now] could it be priced a little lower?

sure, this isnt 100% offical yet, but seems very likely.
Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine.

Viva La Revolution! erm, I mean Viva La Wii!

You can' t actually make your decision right now because there is still one or two things about the console that haven' t been announced.

Sony forced Nintendo to alter their announcements at the last minute (well, the day before) and Nintendo have decided to keep whatever it could be " close to their chest" .

Twilight Princess looks awesome so £179.99 won' t be so bad (that price is my personal speculation based on the all but definate $250 US pricetag).

Wii will be 199.

NES - 199
SNES - 199
N64 - 199
Gamecube - 199

Notice a trend here?

I' ve also heard it' s going to ship with TWO wiimotes. I think that' d be a smart idea, and lets say they release at 199 and take a hit of 50 bucks a machine, I think even Nintendo realises the boon it could be to have a system at 199 at christmas time when the others are 400 and 600 respectively. (I still can' t say that last number without imagining a kick in the nuts as you buy it.)

Sounds like a resonable price but I think they might launch at 199 then again this year seem to be one for breaking trends so could be horribly wrong.

Ah..correct me if im wrong but Nintendo wii will use a DVD player?
Thus it can be used to watch dvd movies in your room,i know a lot of people dont care for that feature..but i mean a dvd player is atleast worth 100 dollar...
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

Honestly, i' d rather get a kick to the nuts from Chuck Norris himself than pay the 600 i know I' m gonna end up paying anyways for a ps3. I just have to keep repeating to myself that it' ll be up on ebay that night, then everything doesn' t seem so bad.

Nintendo does make me proud to be a gamer, just looking at the price alone, plus the possibility of 2 Wiimotes. They' re almost like the mom & pop coffee place on the corner that' s being ignored because Starbucks is going up next door.

I' d definately buy a Wii for $199, but heck, i' d buy for $299, so i guess i' m not a great indicator of price.

(cool i' m " intermediate" now, fina-frickin-ly)

The pieces inside the machine that produces the graphics aren' t exactly high-tech but I imagine that the motion-sensing device costs something to manufacture. Especially that sensor bar you have to put in the room.
And the fact that they' ve had to make the components so small to fit that little box also adds to the manufacturing costs.
Slot loaded discs is more expensive than having a regular disc-drive.
There' s lots of small details with the Wii that makes it cost more than what you would initially guess as you judge the graphic components alone.
I think any price below the 360 Core pack price is a reasonable price.

Smart price is $199 for their core market i think. Soccer moms still have that number in thier heads from the GC..it' s familiar, safe, and cheaper than everything else the kid' s gonna beg for.

Personally i think it' s a deal at the same price as the 360 core or less.

Just so long as the price is as advertised - cheaper than Sony and Microsoft -, it will be acceptible. The peripheral costs however are the big questionmarks at the moment. How much for a chuckstick? The Zapper shell? Classic controller? Wiimote and nunchuck sold seperately?

Those are prices I want to hear of now.

nunchuck and wiimote are in the box + the rest is totally optional so I guess you need to get them separately.

I would have thought that you would get at least 1 classic controller in the bundle just incse you don' t take well to the remote too soon. Also since the wii would be the cheapest to manufacture out of the two (going on tech & specs) would they be able to give you more in their bundles i.e enough controllers.
