GP2X/non-mainstream handhelds - Apr 27, 2006 06:57
I' m bored now. All i ever see is Final Fantasy this and Shenmue that and PS3 vs 360 this and Oblivion that. It' s getting me down because while i like those games, it;s always the same bloody ones!

I want to talk about something new, something interesting, something none current or next-gen related.

I' m appealing for ideas and/or inspiration because all i can think of is whether anybody else here has a Wonderswan or GP2X, or whether anybody remembers/bought/used a Net Yaroze.

Somebody, anybody?!

How did you get a gp2x? import fron south korea or america or something?. And can you play other game formats on it?.

I don' t have too much retro gear at the mo cos gave some away to make space now the only things retro I have is the snes, neogeo and gamegear.

I bought it in the UK. It' s pretty crap considering how much emulators for PSP have progressed and it never gets used. It' s not retro though it' s just rubbish.

I' m REAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY interested in the GP2X but am still on the fence about getting one. I' m simply waiting to see how MAME support progresses. I' ve never cared much about console emulators, just give me some good arcade emulators like MAME, CALLUS, and RAINE! If it gets good MAME support and runs arcade games from up to 1994 without struggling TOO much I' ll get one TOMORROW!

Well there' s much more stuff available for the now really hard to get hold of GP32 as far as emulator go but you should check out...

http://www.gp2x.de/cgi-bin/cfiles.cgi

...for applications and emulators etc.

If you wanted a unit specically for MAME then the GP32 would be better as it has great MAME support and emulators, but isn' t MAME already working well on PSP?! I don' t pay much attention to MAME, i have Genesis, SNES and Neo Geo CD emulators on my PSP and i' m hoping the N64 emulator that' s under development works properly. What i really want is a Neo Geo emulator but as far as i know there isn' t one yet... The one for GP2X works well though, The KOF and Metal Slug games run at full speed with sound.

my vintage library is just about dead, i just cleared house when i found out that all the games i like for the vintage nintendo consoles will be availiable on revolution. i also recently made 50$ by finally parting with my N64 PS, and a slew of other consoles. so the only game consoles i have right now are the game gear, the original game boy, a crappy GBA a ps2 and a GC.

If your talking retro gear then I can let you know that I have a Colecovision if anyone ever owned one or played one. Still like playing Zaxxon on it once in a while. Other than that all I have right now is my 360, xbox, ps2, gamecube and NES still with that little robot dude that came with it to play Gyromite.

There isn' t a single person here that owns a Wonderswan?!

I got a Wonderswan Colour when it first game out though i never bothered with the monochrome original, -- and then sold the ' Colour' to get the ' Crystal' revision and i would take my Gameboy Advance and my Wonderswan Crystal virtually everywhere i went, just like i do now ith my DS and PSP.

I still see them in the odd game store in the UK, usually going really cheap and packaged with loads of games. It' s a shame they weren' t more popular really.

We never had those kinds of handhelds here in denmark, only the gameboys series made it past the borders!
