Some SEGA stuff

It seems everyone here likes Sega so I' m assuming you all visit the official Sega website at a regular basis.
But those of you who don' t, here it is:

Some interesting news can be read such as Sega expanding the company by buying two development studios. I' m very curious about Segas future now that the next generation is here. I wonder if they' ll focus more on publishing games than they have previously and what old IPs they will continue to work with. Sonic is given but Shenmue, Panzer Dragoon and Shinobi might not see any new titles for a while.
What do you guys think of Segas future?

The last two years have a been a bit depressing, but where SEGA' s concerned I always have LOTS of hope for the future.

Hey, cheer up m8. They' ve been doing great in the arcades.
And they have released a good amount of fun titles for consoles as well even though they don' t quite live up to their past.

I miss the Sega that was pumping out games left and right during the Dreamcast era. They were REALLY consistent. They haven' t been anywhere near as consistent since going 3rd party. Hopefully come E3 they' ll turn my frown upside down!!!

Sad to see that their focus is not on more classic franchises made by decent in-house dev teams. I for one would like to see Shinobi return but only if Joe Musashi is back. He' s the icon of the franchise - who care' s if he' s not exciting enough for the mainsteam.

With VF5, HOTD4, After Burner, Virtua Tennis and PSU things are definitely looking up.

Now give me a Scud Race sequel... Or at least an arcade perfect port of the original over Xbox Live.

Well, PSO was a dreamcast game, JSRF was originally planned for the dreamcast if I am not mistaken (Read it somewhere before I even had an xbox) And panzer.... well it was good but Panzer Zwei and Orta were much better IMO.

Sega have plummeted in my mind, I used to really be interested when they made an announcement, these days I' m barely bothered. I do however hope After Burner see' s a console release and is as good as the original.

NiGHTS into Dreamcast

Btw, does anyone know if Sega is making any new arcade game series or if they have done something new recently? I haven' t gone to the arcades for a long time and I don' t want to miss out on something.

Who ever plays games in arcades? here in denmark they died after PC and consoles became something everybody owned!

In fact if I were to rate them, it would be:

1. Arcades
2. Consoles
3. Handhelds...
(During the past few months though, I' ve been wayyyyyyyyyy more into handheld gaming than console gaming.)

No matter how close to PERFECT an arcade game has been converted to a console, the one thing consoles have never been able to do was replicate the wonderful feeling of playing an arcade machine. Maybe if the Revolution comes with a coin slot it might be a step in the right direction

Sega have really gone to the dogs ever since they went 3rd party, Since the dreamcast Sonic Team have been very disapointing, how the heck did they think giving Sonic Guns was a GOOD idea?

Ah man did you have to say that! Now I won' t be able to sleep until I get to know what it is. It' s nice to hear that Sega still got some action going on though.

I think arcades are worthless and poor use of time. I havent been to one in ages, and i dont want to throw away my coin (more than 1$ per game) at games that are at times ridiculesly hard unless you played them a thousand times before.

If Adam had said, the coolest thing that' s coming' s title is three words long, with the first letter of the first word beginning with ' H' , then i would know it' s a new franchise (i can' t think of any SEGA ganes that begin with ' H' ).

I loved the original Headhunter, but Redemption was quite MEH!

Y' know i used to walk to school and on the way i' d go to the shop and everyday i' d spend my money on games magazines. Back then i didn' t even know what girls were, ...but i could tell anbody reams about Metal Gear Solid, Syphon Filter or, erm, ...G-Police...



I love games and there are specific companies that i grew up with that i' d never want to fully admit could possible make a bad game. Sega is one of them. See, i don' t blame Sega, i blame Sammy, and while there may be some truth to that i still feel like i' m kidding myself.

The long running franchises that never really change much, ...i still find brilliant. The HOTD and Virtua Fighter games for example. Subtle changes in the gameplay and superior visuals to previous incarnations and i' m bowled over. But then i look at Namco and say that they need to change the aging game mechanics in their games.

I don' t get it.

Well I would say that Virtua Fighter' s mechanics and overall game engine developed far more than Namco' s Tekken series with each installment. Namely VF2 to VF3 and then to VF4. VF5 seems to have changed the less from 4 than 2 to 3 or 3 to 4. So that seems the exception, but then again it' s not finished and will see noticeable tweaks before release.

I find the biggest change for Tekken was back with 1 to 2 to 3. After that it just didn' t move forward enough. Thankfully I don' t love it any less, especially Tekken 5 and Tekken Tag.

I guess Sega changed more things back then to drive forward the realism in their arcade games. Now they don' t seem to do that so much, though VF5 looks to be an exception through subtle changes more than complete overhaul.

These days I' m just happy and thankfull that most of the companies that I also grew up with are still making games that I want. Even if they don' t change all that much... the magic never dies.

Totally agree it' s weird because I started off liking both sonic and mario about the same now I can' t stand mario (no offense to the mario fans), and I dunno why but it just seems diluted, sonic however seems to still be able to add depth and dimentions to it' s new installations. Sega is one of my favourite companies like you said they have a very good attitude to warm to that' s reflected in their games.

Ok, there have been some announcements lately such as Virtua Tennis and Super Monkey Ball and we' ve got lots of nice VF5 and Chrome Hounds trailers to watch. But we still haven' t figured out the three-words-where-the-first-word-starts-with-H-thing.

I dunno, but i have reason to believe that SOMETHING will be announced in a few hours time. No idea what, it could even just be an update of something we' ve seen recently **thinks Red Steel**, but whatever it is is supposed to be very interesting.

Sega' s newest batch of games sound far more enticing than the previous batches. The Sonic brand, in particular, was tarnished considerably last year, so this will hopefully restore some fairh. However, I really want to try Sonic Rush. Heard that was good. So with only Outrun 2006 and Sonic Rush as the only nice offerings last year, Sega has not done too well. However, if Afterburner, HotD etc. all make their mark, I expect good things for the company this year. And nothing could be more incredible than if they announce a Wii surprise in the form of a Nights sequel. One can only hope....

Back to the H: Same guys that made Guilty Gear fighting series, right? Similar game mechanics, but not identical? Based on an anime? I know what it is.

The game in question is Ken Il Guerrero. Wait, that' s the Italian name.
Fist of the... nope, that' s the American/English title.

HotD4 is great. It' s more of the same but the new mechanics are cool enough to warrant spending more money.

I' m not sure if i prefer the shotguns from the 3rd game though. The Mac 10' s in number 4 seem to be how they expect people to cope with the higher enemy count.

At least they recoil.

It wouldn' t be lying either since they are most likely to be working on some kind of handheld title right now, be it for the PSP, the DS or cell-phones. Right?

Sega did recently merge with sammy, which i feel is great. Sega could continue to make things for arcades like they have been. Sammy' s Atomiswave system is pretty much a slightly upgraded dreamcast that takes cartridges. there is also the noami arcade systems sega has made.

As for the " h" thing.
