iPod Touch?!

Supposedly Apple are working on a new version of the Video iPod, one that has a large screen and uses touchscreen technology.

My guess is that these are mockups.









Everything points towards the click wheel becoming an onscreen touch wheel. As long as you can use a stylus then it' ll be a genius move.

One of the things that sucks about the current Video iPod is the size of the screen. This would obviously be a direct move against Sony' s PSP.

I' ve posted it here because a) it would be a genuine rival to PSP' s media playing capabilities, ..and b) because like most iPods, it will have games too, hopefully along the lines of DS style titles!

This could be huge.

Every iPod has been an improvement (with the exception of the Shuffle) over the previous models. This is the next logical step and i think it' s superb.

The idea of just having a touchscreen without and buttons or whatever is nice. As long as they try to make is as scratch resistent as possible and include a stylus (because i don' t want to get finger prints all over the damn thing, which is something that my black PSP, Nano and current Video iPod are a pain in the ass for).

The possability for touchscreen games is huge. Rivaling DS and PSP at the same time!

I' m failing to see how people are dis-regarding this...

I dunno, maybe you won' t. This thing (though not officially announced yet) is rumoured to hit in the next couple of months, i guess it could easily be here by May.

Well it seems like a nice machine, a good step just hope they release it with an inline control on the earphones, and hope they manage to do something about the battery life, the ipod w/video dies so quick when running videos.

Agreed, the PSP suffers from the same problem. There are always 3rd party batteries though, most of which are an improvement on the official ones (official batteries?).

I' m intrigued by the idea of a touchscreen. iPod could become a real rival to DS (not surpassing it but at least rivalling it).

Apple won' t release any device that compromises batter life for features - their products are really well balanced.

Anyway - It looks great , but mockups and rumours like that have never turned out to be true.

In april apple will have it' s 30th birthday (if I remember correctly) - They' re planning something huge - Jobs actually said that.

The original Video IPod looked just like the mockups that were floating around, and the mockups are based on recently filed Apple patents that showed sketches of the device.

We can hope!

yeah, apple rox teh socks, but i can just imagine really bad rips of games like bejeweled and alleyway, finding their way on it, hopefully they' ll stick to 2d flash stuff and not go all N-gage on us. please apple, no!

Well 2D flash games would be very cool as long as they utilized the touchscreen!

Why not go ahead and make iPod Pocket PC. I mean current pocket pc' s have been touchscreen for ages and should have done a more streamlined OS like this a long time ago (like HP ones), but I suppose apple are the ones to make it have mass appeal.

I never got into pocket PCs though. They date so quickly!

It wouldn' t be that good - iPod is a mainstream hip device - f they were to make Pocket PC it should be a new line of products.

They should merge itunes store with Nintendo WI-FI and make DS and Snes , N64 , GBA games playable (and downloaded through iTunes) plus the Nintendo systems could get a great machine for music and video downloads :)

I like the 1st ipod concept that MagikDra6on showed, and ipod with an built in camera might be worth buying. I still won' t touch one though untill they add direct encoding, fm radio and a respectable battery life. COME ON APPLE ITS NOT FUCKING HARD!

Zen Vision M has a scroll pad instead of the wheel, but it works exactly the same way.

Ok, i' m simply resurrecting this thread because todays the day we should find out if this is happening.

My fingers are crossed and i' m hoping it IS a fullscreen touch sensitive Video iPod/games device and not just some stupid rumoured Macbook or iPod-boombox rubbish!

I want downloadable widescreen feature films from iTunes (iFilms??!!) and a full screen Video iPod with Flash based games. That' d rock Sony' s boat!

WAS is too much to wish for?
