It' s id Software VX, ...saying ID is saying ' eye dee' . Loads of people make that mistake.
I believe it' s more that it started out as ID (eye-dee) but has progressed to id (as in Freud) over the years. At least, if the id website is anything to go by...
http://www.idsoftware.com/business/ I think the whole thing is pretty much open to debate/interpretation, mebbe Romero wanted ID and Carmack plumped for id. :) To quote Harry Hill, " There' s only one way to settle this... FIIIIIIIGHT!"
Anyhoo, IPs - If it were only a choice of one, it' d have to be Sega. Nintendo would have pegged it for me if they weren' t whoring out Mario so much these days, but then most of the best games I' ve played this generation are Nintendo' s.
But to be fair Sonic is a bit sullied of late (sorry Adam, but sure you' ll agree). Shadow the Hedgehog made me physically ill upon just hearing about it, but Sonic Rush more than makes up for it.
Capcom are definitely up there.
Don' t agree on Bungie, the question was regarding IPs (plural), and they only have Halo that' s worth a damn. Oni was decent but flawed, and Myth...
Nobody' s mentioned Ubisoft - they deserve a namecheck these days too - all the Tom Clancy stuff, PoP, BG&E, Kong - though they have lost some momentum in 2005.
EDIT: Oh, and I' m forgetting Sony. They deserve more respect than they' re given on this front. Ape Escape, EyeToy, Gran Tourismo (love or hate it), Harmonix games (well, they' re Sony published, they might as well own the IPs), Ico and SotC... I could go on, but can' t think of any more good examples.
