Greatest Boss Character/Battle - Jan 23, 2006 04:59

But i thought maybe the Cycloid Emperor from Duke Nukem 3D...

lol, yep, BUT Dural is only picked under the category of Fighting game bosses.

In general though, I love enormous screen-filling bosses.. Forgotten Worlds had one that took up several screens.

The Boss from SIN, Alexsis' s father, was a real cool huge boss.

Also ill never forget my first encounter with Cyberdemon, the thumb thumb sounds coming from its walk was soooo scary back when i played Doom the first time, i think i almost crapped my pants when i got killed by the first rocket

Somehow they screwed it up in Doom 3, i dont even remember killing it there

Dr Eggman in the older Sonic games was always a force to be reckoned with. I' ll try and find some pictures but as the games went on there became more and more ' final' battles, for instance in the end of Sonic & Knuckles you had to beat four different contraptions in a row almost to get to the end of the game.

I think the most impressive (and most difficult) boss is the one at the end of Bible Adventures. Tetris also had some very intimidating bosses.

Dural doesn' t count as a boss since it has absolutely no original moves of its own. It' s like the boss at the end of Soul Calibur. Steals moves from other characters. Doesn' t really even count as a character at all.

The best boss ever was definetly the giant pile of poo that sings in Conker Live and Reloaded. I was cracking up at that part.

The battle with Sephiroth wasn' t the best boss ever, but as far as Boss character developement, I would agree. Some of my favorite boss' es ever were actually from Gradius 3. I also really liked the Boss fight in Wind Waker, one of the best Boss fights ever.

Nah, Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time was a better boss than Sephiroth was. Reflecting big ol' balls of electricity with Link' s sword till you hit him, then hitting him with a Light Arrow to down him before attacking with your sword was genius. Thyen once you' ve defeated him, he destroys the castle while you' re inside it, bursts out from under the rubble and is transformed by the Tri-Force into the great pig demon Ganon and you have to fight him again!!!

Ganondorf

Ganon

Gradius = side scrolling shooter

AS to the ganandorf vs. sephiroth thing, I don' t think you read my whole post magikdra60n, I said Sephiroth better character, Ganandorf better fight. I liked the fight in wind waker even more than ocarina or time though.

I think Ganondorf is a better character. Seph is just like all those japanese gay guys. Long white hair, black leather robe, cool animé face, long sword that wouldn' t work in real life. He' s so boring. Ganondorf is more unique. But of course Seph is cool. But boring.

Yeah, but this thread isn' t a ' who' s better' thread, it' s a ' who' s YOUR favourite boss character/what' s you' re favourite boss battle' thread. There' s no reason for people to start talking about who' s better or more powerful than everyone else because we all see thing different ways and have distinctly different tastes.

I enjoyed the boss battles in Z.O.E. too, and in the 2nd Runner. I' m a huge mecha fan! Actually, if it' s Japanese i will likely love it (i know somebody is gonna bring up something twisted, so i' ll pre-empt my " except that" ). Everybody should go to Akihabara if they get chance.

Oooh, what about Ninja Gaiden' s bosses?

Woo saa Terry, don' t forget your woo saa!

Ha, i have Gradius 3 on one of my PSP' s (i bought a 2nd PSP off a friend because it had version 2.0 firmware while my original Japanese imported model was/is 1.0 and i wanted to keep running emulators but be able to play new games too).

Gradius 3 is one of the best games ever!!!

Alright, my favorite bosses of all time are as follows.
1. Any boss from Shadow of the Colossus.
2. Bowser from Super Mario Bro' s
3. " The Boss" from MGS 3
4. The " Killing Doug Shetland" level in splinter cell chaos theory, (yeah i know it' s not a real boss " battle" per-se, but it is more dramatic than most.

My favorite boss character was Mother Brain, from Metroid. And by " favorite" I mean, " I hate that b*tch with that passion of a thousand ranting Nintendo fanboys!" She kicked my ass a hundred ways til Sunday, but I' ll never forget her.

Actually, the best part was AFTER you beat her, and had to escape from the lair under the time limit!! Talk about nerve-wracking!!

Next to music, bosses are my favourite bit in a game! My three faves are Lord Saddler[Resident Evil 4], Doopliss[Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door] and Lord Nergal[Fire Emblem(7)](MAYBE in that order...). All of which, unfortunately, are rather short fights though.

Lord Saddler[Resident Evil 4]

what? that guy was so easy, i killed him with one rocket, and a few killer 7 rounds, to be honest the whole game [re4] was a easy, but none the less good!.

My fav. bosses?

- Liquid Snake from MGS1 [loved the way you fought him three times, really suited his character]

- Devil may Cry 3 had some of the hardest bosses this generation. but the second boss [the two guys with swords] was really old school [as in it took you 20 times to figure out how to KILL him!]

- Shadow of the closiss was brillant, oh paul shame on you, i live in europe and i got the game. tsk tsk.. anyway what was wrong with the last boss? i loved the tunnels/trenchs thing.

erm, i bet there are some more, but i cannot think of them right now.

But the topic isn' t " Who is the toughest boss?" now is it?

Besides, you' re supposed to just use a few bullets and the rocket anyway aren' t you? Hence the cutscene at the end with Leon firing it.

Bring on Resi 5!

But to be a great boss you got to give the gamer a challenge, after 10 or so hours you earned it. The last boss represents the ulimate test and the hardest fight within a game, if its too easy, needless to say the game is less memorable. for me anyway.

I like rock hard bosses.

I think Bob from Earth Worm Jim is worth a mention despite putting up no form of challenge at all.

That' s just your opinion though. I, personally, LOVE simple bosses. I don' t tend to enjoy boss fights that nearly force me to smash the television or throw my handheld system.

Andross is pretty cool, though...

Edit- Actually, I like tough bosses- it' s just the fighting them bit that annoys me!

?????????

if " boss " is easy how do you know he' s the boss?

Next time you want to throw your controller go to the mirror and say " IT' s ME !! I SUCK , NOT THE CONTROLLER"

That' s the best cure :)

Who cares if some boss looks cool - the challenge is something you remember for years.
