ORIGINAL: ginjirou

According to www.gametrailers.com the new HD-drive for the Xbox360 might only be used for movies.

But that' s just what they believe. Nothing is certain yet...?

Actually, the vice president of Microsoft, Peter Moore, has confirmed as much.

So, then what' s the reason to by the HD-DVD?

To play movies?

You gotta be kidding me...what a waste!!!

Without the games being on HD-DVD, there' s absolutely no reason to buy the add-on device.

I' d rather buy a normal separate HD-DVD player than some crappy add-on for the 360 if it doesn' t enhance the games in any way. Then I could play games and watch DVDs in high-def at the same time

Now they might release blu-ray drives as well, i guess that makes it a win win situation?

I think the upcoming add-on for the 360 should be a BR and a HD-dvd player. Two in one baby. That' s the only way 360 owners would get a good deal.

Actually i think the deal is perfect as it is, i dont have a HDtv, and i wont get one in long.

I dont pay for hardware that isnt needed yet, and when i need it, i can just buy and add on drive, perfect!

im pretty sure the hd-dvd addon will be half-assed,just like the dvd player they have in already. In about a year or so I think we will see 360s with hd-dvd incorporated into them, and normal 360s, but the ones with hd-dvd players will cost a little more. And they will only play movies, and not use them for hd-dvd games. I don' t think MS is gonna make hd-dvd games, and then dvd games at the same time, I would suck and like someone said, ppl would get confused.

In my opinion MS should' ve made hd-dvd games from the beginning cuz I think later on games will take up more space, especially RPGs. Now it looks like MS will be more into RPGs and I' m guessing they will have to make them in dual-layered dvds, or two discs, which I don' t kno....I don' t like the idea of it.

Why do people keep saying that the console DVD players are " half-assed" ? Will someone PLEASE explain this to me? I' ve used my 360 as a DVD player since I bought the damn thing, and it plays movies just FINE. Are other people experiencing problems or something?

I' ve used my PS2' s DVD Player for quite some time with very little problems as well.. Actually the only problems encountered were with a few rented DVDs that looked like they had tire tracks all over them.

Yeah, the DVD playback is fine mostly. It can be a little flickery with older DVD' s and DVD' s that have been mass produced and given away free etc, but that' s likely down to the discs themselves.

Thing is though, did you really buy you Xbox 360 to play DVD' s?

The HD-DVD component won' t be developed my Microsoft anyway, it' ll likely be a Toshiba model built specifically for 360, and since they' ll be locked tight in a format war when it' s released later thgis year, i doubt they' ll skimp on the quality!

The question becomes: is the 360 add-on being released at the same time as the stand-alone units?

Whatever hits the market first, I' m there! I can' t wait! And for all of you early-adopter haters, I' ve got one word for you; COSTCO! Man, you can return sh*t to them like a year later, and they' ll take it back! They' re awesome!

I bought my PS2 to play DVDs!

That was one of the bi selling points of the unit, that and Gradius IV were initially this former Sony ' playa' hater' s reason for picking up a PS2 right away weeks after launch!

The DVD didn' t really have to compete like HD-DVD and Blu-Ray did it?
