Marathon Runner beta - Nov 03, 2005 14:28
http://www.locopuyo.com/MarathonRunnerBeta1.zip
Just unzip it then run the MarathonRunner Java Exacutable file. This one is pretty basic (its just a beta). 8 and 9 move the legs for now. You have to close and reopen to start a new race. In the final version I' ll have photo realistic graphics, customizable controls, choose from a number of races (100 meter dash, mile, 5k run, marathon and more), and probably a high scores database on my web site for each race.
The race is set to 1000 steps in this, so it should take you less than 2 minutes to finish. Let me know what you think, post your times.

RE: Marathon Runner beta - Nov 04, 2005 00:08
haha thanks. 5 people i know got exactly 1 minute and 36 seconds their first time. then there have been 3 people I know who finished just a little over 2 minutes besides you. The best anyone has ever done on their first time is 1:36. The fastest time so far is 1:28, and one person has 1:29.

I' m trying to work on the scores part of it now. The game will connect to a database on my server and put a high score on there.

Um... can you count your steps while you run your marathon? Hahaha, I' ll probably just calculate it out jogging a short distance.

Nike has equipment you can buy that caculates your speed and counts how many steps you take. I' m thinking abouyt buying it for when I do my race.

Um its not supposed to have one. THe game has a start button you click with your mouse. You just need java to play it. You need the latest version of java or else it won' t work. http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp there is a link at the bottom to get java for macs.

What happened when you tried to play it? If it gave you some sort of cannot find main class error that means you have an old version of java.

I have the latest version of Java for the Mac. When I launch it, it says:

Jar Launcher

The jar file " MarathonRunner.jar" couldn' t be launched. Check the Console for possible error messages

OK

And the Console says:

Some people with windows had a problem similiar to that, they didn' t have the latest version of java. When they downloaded the new version it worked. Do you have the latest version? Because I use some new features in java that weren' t included in the older versions in my game. You need 5.5.

It is listed at 1.4.2 on my computer, but I imagine that the Mac versions are labeled differently. Try Flash!

I looked at the mac java web site and it looks like in order to run the latest version of java 1.5.5 you need Tiger. So I guess my game, and many other java applications cannot run on Macs. Although I know you can get the latest version of java for linux, and max os x is pretty much a modified linux, so I dunno. I guess Macs suck.
