Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube. Easily the current (previous) generations finest game.

Otherwise it breaks down by genre:

Fighting - KOF 2002
Driving - PGR3
FPS - Call Of Duty 2 (previously Half Life 2)
RPG - FF7
Platform - Super Mario 64/Banjo Tooie

FF7 FFS!!!
And yes Shenmue 2 is probably in my top 10 of all time.
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

Nah, it' s a quality game to be sure, but it can' t be the best game you' ve ever played! FF7 just has so much depth, and Resident Evil 4 is one of the most fun games ever...

I also heard Shadow the Hedgehog sucked muchly, tell me they' re wrong?!

recent:

Virtua Fighter 2/3/4 evo, final tuned
VF FT is without doubt the deepest videogame ive ever played, previously the seris has seemed to gain depth and get better and better. VF5 is comming soon, and i aint even lernt 1 quarter of 4 ffs! lol.

Quake 3/threewave MOD
This is like a watered-down FPS version of VF!! its very quick reponsive almost arcade-gameplay can at very first miss-lead people thinking thats its abit shallow..but its infact extremely deep..very deep... every weapon/Map/move actually are made for a reason with alot of thought put-into them and the game mechanics are just perfect. Like VF games, playing 1 vs 1 with another greatly skilled player results in extreme intense matches!

Mariokart DS
Classic, classic, classic. Have been getting bored of videogames of late until this arrived, totally drew me in with its fun, smooth and ' deep' gameplay. The finest game of 2005 IMO.

Oldskool:

Outrun
SegaRally
Shinobi
SOR 1/2/3
Super Mario brothers 3
Sega worldwide Soccer 98
Wonderboy 3 in dragons trap
Sonic 1

Metal Geat Solid
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
Shenmue
Shenmue 2

The list changes from time to time but Mgs will always be the best!

Damn, quite a few of you like some really shitty games! Especially Sonic Blade.

Anyway, there is no way to pick a favorite as has been said in all of the other threads of this nature, so here are some of the best games ever made (the following is FACT, not opinion). In no particular order:

-Super Monkey Ball (GC ... that' s right, not " GCN" . People who say " GCN" are retarded)
-Burnout Revenge
-Space Harrier
-Thunder Force (series)
-Monster World (series)
-Shenmue (series)
-Phantasy Star (series, Online games do not count as part of Phantasy Star franchise)
-Castlevania (series)
-Sonic (the proper ones on the Genesis ONLY, crap like Spinball are NOT included)
-Snatcher
-Ys (series)
-Street Fighter (series)

Too many more to list!

Guardian Heroes (Saturn)

This is my number one through time and I won' t say it is the best game ever created but is my most favorite. (not just from memory)
But the list of my favorite games.

Alot of people seem to pick very recent games.
Dang!! Shenmue(series) is 2nd to none but Guardian Heroes for me.

I want to make a list but I must refrain!

" whats the best game you ever played" Guardian Heroes

I like alot of other games but that' s my answer.

ok, here goes my all time favorites on every console/computer i own:

> commodore 64: ghosts and goblins (i still can' t get enough, tough i love its sequell even more, but never had that on the commodore 64)

> commodore amiga 500: lotus turbo challenge 2 (a friend came at 0:1;00 to bring me this game. at first i was anoyed to be called out of bed in a weekday, but after playing this game, i got out and get it for myself the next weekeind. man, those full screen graphics sped by really fast, and for its time, it looked exelent)

> sega megadrive: ghouls and ghosts. (when i walked in a big town, i saw a demo of this game running on a tv. the console whas hidden behind the counter, so i asked the salesman how they managed to hook up a arcade board to a tv. he replied, its not a arcade board, but the sega megadrive. the weekeind that followed i got the money, and got home with a megadrive, ghouls and ghosts, and super hang on.)

> supernes: donkey kong country/supermario world. (i can not choose. mario' s superb gameplay is deep and rewarding, but graphics underpowered the console. on the other side is donkey kong country, a little less deep gameplay, but still really tight, and graphics that wowed me when i layed my eyes on them. man, such high resolution, and super smooth animation, that monkey gave mario a run for its money.... still, i enjoyed both, and can' t deside witch one got played more...)

> mega cd: batman returns. (with scaling as seen in the arcade outrun, and fast shooting gameplay, the driving part of this game kicks ass. i STILL play this one. also jaguar xj220 had the same scrolling, but never made the same impact on me as batman did.....)

> playstation: ridge racer type 4. (man, this game' s graphics shows so much details, and gives exelent controll over your car. i still play this game often.)

> nintendo 64: super mario 64. (it does not got the looks, but boy oh boy did this game revolutionized the 3D platform in manny ways. still the best platformer in 3D if u ask me)

> dreamcast: crazy taxi. (after playing this game in the arcade' s, and hearing sega where about to release it on dreamcast without loosing much detail, i bought me a dreamcast just for this game. and i am still glad i did...... the dreamcast has manny classics in its collection.)

> playstation 2: gran turismo 3. (i know, part 4 is bigger, but still, gran turismo 3 A-spec made a bigger impact on me. man, this game is deep, has superb graphics, and never gets dull.)

> xbox: outrun 2. (i bet that this will be replaced by outrun 2006 coast to coast, but still this game rocks, and has deeper gameplay then most people know about. watch team marubaku' s superreplay' s of outrun 2, and you see how this game has to be played.)

> psp: ridge racer(s). (just as the xbox game, this will soon be outrun 2006 coast to coast, but ridge racer looks sharp, and showed as a first generation how all games can look in the future. and this game is big. exelent is even not close enough to discribed the exelence of this game, both in system link, as in the one player mode.)

> xbox 360: project gotham racing 3. (i know, its the only game i own, but i bought it after a few long gaming sessions with my nephew. online is great. to bad for the crash bug when you got the premium package with all contents. then, switching from game to friendslist can result in a system chrash witsh needs you to turn your console off, and then on again. the good thing about the dashboard is you can invite friends really easy.)

there are so much more games that i love, but these defined fun and gameplay on these consoles. and that i am a racing fan can easilly be seen

RE4 was pure genius!!

Why are they going back to the Umbrella based story from previous games with RE5?! I mean i like the idea, but the faster villagers were great, much better than zombies, y' now technically zombies are innocent. I wanna kill something evil!!

Definitely!
I LOVED that Resident Evil strayed from the tired Umbrella story and tried something different. I would have loved to see them continue down that path and maybe start to return to the Umbrella storyline in Resident Evil 6.

As basic enemies, the villagers and monks in Resident Evil 4 created a tense atmosphere that, to me, wasn' t present in the previous Resident Evil games... I mean there was literally NO place to run and hide from the villagers.. You could easily outrun zombies and then exit an area and be done with them until you had to return to that area. Not in Resident Evil 4 though, they' ll kick down the doors and climb ladders just to get ya! Smarter, Faster, and utilized teamwork.

Once i' d completed the main story twice, then Ada' s little adventure, i was forced to keep playing because of the addictiveness of the mercenaries game.

The chainsaw wielding, bag headed villagers were great. Dual bladed chainsaws that can kill you in a single swipe, ...great!

I hope the zombies in RE5 are much faster, and i hope not to see any tyrants or lickers. Just smart zombies that act along the lines of the enemies from RE4 would be just fine!

Bringing back Umbrella doesn' t necessary mean that we will see slow zombies again.
If you played the game you know that...

RE4 SPOILER

RE4 SPOILER

...Ada gets the " sample" which Umbrella probably will use to it' s benefits. So I think we' ll see the best of everything: Umbrella, Whisker (or whatever that creepy guy was called) and fast parasite-infested people. I' m a little worried though if Mikami isn' t working with RE5.
You know, those parasites spoken of in RE4 exists for real. They enter the nerv-systems of snails and force them to climb high which makes them get eaten by birds. This helps the parasite to reproduce and to take control of more brains. . There is a text in the game explaining this but I don' t think that many knows that there actually is such a creature for real. It would be cool if it mutated and really could take over humans. Just as they do with snails, they would force humans to only satisfy basics needs (such as feeding muahaha) and then reproduce in some way (Aliens anyone?)

Wesker!!!

RE5 will be great, that' s a given, and the video shows what appear to be fast looking zombies. But, zombies are still zombies. Capcom also said that it won' t follow on from where RE4, which i don' t quite understand seeing the reaction it got.

I' ve managed to whittle mine down to a top 3 list. (as opposed to a top 107)

Metal Gear Solid 3- For the amazing cinematography and storyline.
Fallout 2- For the setting.
Jak and Daxter- The quintessential platformer.

I have to say that the new main character looks so incredibly boring. He looks like the typical American action hero. Nothing like Leon at all. It would be fun if you started out as a total geek in the game but as the story progressed, you would become cooler.

What is " antipatice it with love" ??? Sound wierd to me...

I' m just gonna look forward to it instead i think. Chris' s stubble with be polygonal!!!

RE5 is a direct continuation of the story from RE4. Looks to be set in Somalia (the video at least) or somewhere like that. The setting was inspired by Ridley Scott' s Black Hawk Down and Chris (it IS chris isn' t it?) is stranded after surviving a erm...helicopter crash (this is all official too).

Now, i didn' t enjoy it and only completed it once, but where was Chris supposed to be during Code Veronica. See, Claire (his sister) went looking for him and Leon was involved too but only appeared via a radio transmission (right?).

Are RE4 and RE5 actually set during the same timeline as Code Veronica?

The Outbreak games on PS2 are set during the same timeline as RE2 and RE3.
