Oct 12, 2005 16:39
This is a topic I first created on the Shenmuedojo forums. Its basically a comparison of PS3 and 360. INFORMATION: In order for XBOX 360 to be backwards-compatible with XBOX games, you will need to have the 20Gb hard-drive, avalible seperatly for $99.99 U.S./€99.99/£69.99, or as included in the " Premium" package. Blu-Ray disks can reach up to 100Gb capacity via dual-layering. The PS3 controller obivously designed to appeal to Austrailia, which seems to ban a lot of games. Next thing you know they' ll have an Eye-toy in the shape of a didgeridoo. XBOX 360 LIVE > There are two types of packages on XBOX 360 live, " Silver" and " Gold" (You can imagine Gold is better; read below) " Silver" membership is free on 360. Silver allows you to chat (w./ video! :D ), but you can' t play games unless you purchase Gold membership, avalible through ordering on the 360 live dashboard. You can also buy and update your subscription with " Subscription Cards" , much in the same way as Mobile Phone top-up cards, so you can buy that if you don' t want to give your details out over the internet (It' s what I would want to do). They' ll also have some special occasions/weekends were anybody on Silver can play Gold as well! UK PRICING (GBP) 1 Month - Price: £4.99 3 Month - Price: £14.99 12 Month - Price: £39.99 US PRICING (USD) 1 Month - Price: $7.99 3 Month - Price: $19.99 12 Month - Price: $49.99 Oh, and anybody with a current XBOX live supscribtion, it will be transferred to a Gold account on 360. And, those on 360 can play original XBOX games online with old XBOX owners. Silver membership and the Headset? Who needs telephones to chat to your mates? lol All in all, online 360 is kick-ass! :D LIVE Connection FAQ This is for those who are confused about how to connect to the LIVE service, and to ensure you can connect to LIVE with XBOX 360. This information is also relevant for current-gen XBOX also. Firstly, to connect to XBOX LIVE, you need a Broadband internet connection and an Internet Modem (Preferably with a free Ethernet port, see below. ) Second, you need to determine what type of Modem you have. (As I mentioned, it would be preferable to be an Ethernet Modem) To determine this, check what plug comes out of the modem; either: USB Or, Ethernet If it is an Ethernet modem, simply connect the Ethernet cable (supplied with the console) directly from the XBOX [360], to the modem. Then connect the Modem to the Phone Line [see your Modem setup guide]. If you have a USB-only modem, there are two options: 1. To Connect the Ethernet Cable coming out of your console into an Ethernet Socket on the back of your computer (if you don' t have an Ethernet Socket on the back of your computer, see below), and then having the computer connected through your USB modem. You need to set this up, and configure Windows ICS on your computer. See here for a guide on how to do this. 2. The other option (and also the only one if you don' t want to have turn your PC on everytime you want to play XBOX LIVE) is to purchase an Internet Router, avalible for around £50-£80 GBP (Make sure the particular device is compatible- ask your retailer.) This is like an Adaptor, you can connect upto four Ethernet Cabels into the one device, and hence share your Internet connection with both your PC and XBOX. If you want more detailed information on connecting your XBOX [360] to the LIVE service, I recommend you check out The Official XBOX LIVE connection FAQ. EXAMPLES OF GAMES ON BOTH SYSTEMS UPDATE 31/10/05- Comparison of screens of the same game on both systems from From Software' s Armoured Core 4 thats day/month/year, yankees. Yes, the first example of the same game on both systems. The top row is Playstation 3, the bottom is XBOX 360. However, it should be noted that it is not the same footage for both system, plus the PS3 version is believed to be one later in development. (Unfortunatly, I cannot get larger images. However, in this case I would say the PS3 version looks best, however, again, it is a version later in development.) http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/662/662658p1.aspx XBOX 360 KAMEO: ELEMENTS OF POWER NBA2K6 PROJECT GOTHAM RACING 3 PS3 METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUNS OF THE PATRIOTS THE GETAWAY 3 DEVIL MAY CRY 4 SUMMARY Hmmm...well, everything here is subject to change. I may include Revoulution as well when info comes through. PS3 is widely speculated to be more expensive, for slightly more power, and it no longer has a hard-drive with that, as previously billed. However of course the price hasn' t been annouced, for all we know it could £40 with 5 games, we shall see. However, PS3 has shown some truly graphically immpressive games, see the screens above. As for competing with Blu-Ray, Bill Gates is thinking about releasing a HD-DVD drive, disks that are basically same storage compatibility. Future 360' s will probably have this drive built in. And yes, I have posted this in many forums. I don' t care.
