The ' Grade-a-Game' thread. - Aug 10, 2005 13:38
Okay, the rules are similar to ' This or That' , only this thread is Game-only. I start off by writing down a game. The next user will give that game a grade out of ten. But, if you haven' t played that game, you just say ' never played it' . Here' s an example:

User 1: Halo 2?
User 2: 9/10, Halo 2 was awesome;
Legend of Zelda: Windwaker?
User 3: 7/10, I didn' t like the Cel-shaded look;
Splinter Cell Chaos Theory?
User 4: Never played it;
Final Fantasy X?
..................
And so on, and so forth..

Okay, you know the rules. So I go first:

Gran Turismo 4?

9/10- great graphics, great game mechanics, very rich and deep, just a bit too bloody, and a bit perverted (you know what I' m talking about..)

Soul Calibur 2?
" Nintendo' s an innovator,
Sony' s an imitator."

Yet, for some reason, it' s Sony that gets all the credit.

8/10 - Good graphics, and very fun to play. Needed a little more innovation.

6/10 - Great graphics and presentation, great control scheme, but it' s just too damn hard and I have lost any interest in playing it. I don' t play games to get my ass kicked for no reason, I play for fun, and being hard just for the sake of being hard is not fun. The game needs a more accesible difficulty mode. The difficulty ruins the game for me, making me not give two shits about the game. Had so much potential.

10/10; it' s been a while since I played such a unique title. Total awesomeness, and you can' t forget that tune..*hums to self*

This thread could actually be super helpful, it' s like a bunch of mini reviews for anyone who' s interested in any game. I' m going to reccomend bolding the name of the game everyone suggests so it' s easier to scan and see if there' s a game you' re interested in.

Ok, on to Donkey Konga, graphics arent' really that important in a game like this, but the gameplay as silly as it was was pretty damn fun. Throw in a couple of drinks, and some friends, and you could have a real good time for a night or two. Don' t think I ' d be much interested in the single player though.

I never played Beyond Good and Evil, but from what I' ve heard, it' s the epitome of a sleeper hit. Anyway, time to pick a game:

Metroid Prime?
" Nintendo' s an innovator,
Sony' s an imitator."

Yet, for some reason, it' s Sony that gets all the credit.

9/10 I' ve only played the first few levels but, the graphics were insane and made me feel like I was in the game.

Toy Commander?(or if you haven' t played this game Syphon Filter)

I played Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain, and I' d give it a 6/10. It has really bad graphics, sloppy control, and just can' t compare to some of the other, better, action games.

Well, since nobody' s answering right now, I' ll go ahead:

What would you rate The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time?
" Nintendo' s an innovator,
Sony' s an imitator."

Yet, for some reason, it' s Sony that gets all the credit.

7/10. I didn' t find Rainbow Six 3 as fun as other shooters in the industry. Okay, now grade:

Final Fantasy VII
" Nintendo' s an innovator,
Sony' s an imitator."

Yet, for some reason, it' s Sony that gets all the credit.

8/10 really fun, great action,i diddnt like the fact that half of the people shooting at you were either in tanks or had RPG' s it made the game a little hard.

5/10 - Boring just like all other FPS games. Online is overrated. Lots of glitches that came with the game that the testers did not catch. Not exceptional.

No i not saying praise the game, i' m just saying if you dont like FPS in general dont give a grade to a FPS. Like for example i dont like racing games that much so i wouldnt give a grade to say Midnight Club 3:Dub Edition.

lol

To be quite honest, I didn' t care for it either. I didn' t think it had that much of improvement in it. Oh wow, pretty graphics. But the biggest deal they made out of it was the hold 2 weapons at the same time deal. C' mon folks, that has been around for ages. You should have had it in the first game to begin with. As far as characters and weapons, nah not that much improvement. Same old looking outfit with new polygons in it and eww...scary aliens. Overall when rated against other Shooting up games, I wouldn' t put this one on the top list. I' ll give it a 6/10 just cause of the graphics.

9/10

Would have scored a little bit higher had Konami done the music instead, but still a wonderful game overall!

I' m not qualified to grade Super Mario 64 since I only played it for 15 minutes, but if I were to grade just those 15 minutes I would give it a grade of 7.3/10

I am NO WHERE near as enamoured with that game as the rest of the world seems to be.

Obviously Terry has been abducted, and an imposter is giving his reviews for him. Real Terry would have given Mario 64 a 9.5 out of 10. Real Terry would also have gone on and on about how much he enjoyed playing the game in his basement alone all the time. It may have actually gotten a little uncomfortable as Real Terry gushed about how Mario 64 made his life complete, but we' d all look the other way, cause we respect Real Terry a lot.

Oh yeah, Super Mario World get' s a 9 /10 from me. My favorite of all the 2D mario games.

Ok Joe, this ones for you, have at it!!!

4.112233424324566 out of 10. Actually maybe 4.112233424324562. Dreadfully boring and gave me a headache. I had constant diarrhea for two weeks after playing that game. Also, the real Terry does not have a basement. He lives in a penthouse.

(I' m telling you all right now, if ANY of you give the above game (Splinter Cell) less than a 9.4 out of 10 then you better start wearing a bullet proof vest starting from after you hit submit post until the next major Splinter Cell release hits cause Rampage is a pretty good marksman I hear)

Ok, I' ve never played ANY splinter cell game, but since this thread was about to fade into oblivion, and I think it has some good information on it, I pulled it back up since I just popped in my compliments of Kikizo copy of Beyond Good and Evil for the first time last night.
I have the PS2 version, and sometimes the frame rate dipps a bit, aparently this doesn' t happen witht he gamecube version. I' ve only played about 1 hour so far, but wow. The music and style to this game are awsome. The opening sequence is one of those " wow, I love this game" moments few other games have done for me. The fighting looks so neat, especially when surrounded bu a group, and your charcter switches to fighting one in front to behind, to in front again seamlessly. So far Highly reccomended.

Shenmue(and please tell me why, not just OMG OMG best game evah!!!! I hardly know anything about this game.)

Shenmue...hmm 9/10 maybe even 9.5/10. When it was released it was really something new, revolutionary. You live Ryu' s life. Earning money, hanging around at the arcade and stuff. Sometimes when I played I totally forgot about the story and just walked through the city and explored. The atmosphere is really intensive(for example you see how people in the morning open their shop, people come across and buy a few things and in the evening the shop owner closes it again) and the game catches you after the first few minutes and refuses to let you go. Besides of that, the Story is nice, too. Nothing to special, but still pretty good. And it' s the Action-Adventure style game with the best fighting system.

Okay, next game is...hmmm: Top Spin Tennis

My first impression of Shenmue was 7.5 out of 10..

It' s got a good story, So good that one of the idiotic reviewers of Japan' s gaming bible, Famitsu, knocked the score down because he thought that the story was " Too Strong" . At the time that was about the dumbest thing I' ve ever read from a game reviewer.

The QTE events were nice, and I liked how all of the NPCs throughout the city went about their daily routines.

Anyways, as great as the original Shenmue is, the game isn' t without some minor flaws.

Sometimes, maneuvering Ryo isn' t as great as it should be. The game controls well overall but there are times when simply turning can be a bit of an exercise. The controls just felt a tad bit stiff.

The game also has quite a few time based elements that are cool and at the same time a pain sometimes.

But the biggest reason for the 7.5 is because Ryo never changes his clothes. He wears the same damn jacket every day!

Anyways my final impression of the original Shenmue would have me scoring it around an 8.3/10. There was definitely room for improvement and Shenmue II was it and gets a higher grade no doubt. I' d give Shenmue II a 9.4/10, the end of Disc 3 alone was AMAZING! At the time that I completed Shenmue II, I hadn' t been as pumped up, excited, and exhilarated by a game in such a way for a long time.

ORIGINAL: Jason Zeidan

I never played any 32X games..

Okay, my game. This one' s for you, Rampage:

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

9.85- I think I' ve explained how great it is enough. The only game that really beats it is Halo and I don' t even consider that a game anymore. It' s basically a lifestyle. Halo is just always there. As for me not giving SC:CT a 10 ore even a 9.9 it' s basically because every level got better and better until the very last one which just wasn' t as good as the others. I also have to leave room open for the next SC to score higher. I also have a cazy itch that tells me Gears of War may out do it as well, and now with the news of Shenmue 3....

Since we' re still on the topic of grading Shenmue I' ll give it a 9.6. It' s mainly because of the immersion factor. When I played that game I was in the game. No game has ever done that so well for me. I felt emotionally hurt when I watched Ryo' s father die. I wanted Lan Di' s head. It was just crazy how much I felt like I was Ryo living in Japan. There were some dissapointments though. The cliff hanger ending sucked even though it was basically spelled out when they said it was only the first chapter. Also, I really would have liked have Ryo wear something different. Customization would have been a welcome addition. There were a few other problems but not strong enough to really bring the game down much.

Knuckles' Chaotix

I' ll just have a go at that one: 6/10 it was nice playing with a friend but just too confusing. I never got a good feeling for the bouncing/string attached thing. Sometimes you would just fly through the screens and end up progressing without even knowing how you did it. I only played it a few times with a friend but most people got scared by the very bright colours and the " what did just happen / what did I just do" effect.

Maybe I was just expecting too much of a real Sonic game...

Burning Rangers next please!
