What to play those HD trailers on? - Jul 27, 2005 09:23
Hey guys, with the current wave of HD game trailers coming out lately from Teamxbox, Gametrailers.com, and Kikizoâ„¢, i was wondering what kind of PC is worthy enough to play them? are they even supposed to be played on a PC? or on a DVD player? The videos crawl on a P4 2gig with a Geforce4 MX at 512mb ram!

if they' re meant to be watched on a DVD player, how do i go about doing that?

Are you using WMP to view them? My comp is 2.1ghz with 512mb of ram and WMP won' t play HD trailers. However, powerdvd played them just fine. Even so, I don' t like downloading HD trailers. Even on broadband I don' t like waiting that long to view my games.

You probably just need to update your drivers and codecs. I use the KLite Codec Pack which includes Media Player Classic. I use media player classic (not to be confused with windows media player) to play all of my video, it even can play realplayer and quicktime, and you can play quicktime in full screen, something you can' t even do with standard quicktime player.

Some of the HD video that I downloaded was playing extremely choppy, but then I reinstalled my codecs and it works just fine. You shouldn' t have any problem playing them with your current hardware.

I have an alienware that is only about a year old and it has trouble with the movies. I have a f-ing pimped out alienware too. Maybe I' ll try it with a different program.

WMV codecs are pretty dicey. That' s why I like Quicktime 7 HD videos. They' ll play even on " slower" (still fast, though) computers. A lot of people who make the " HD" trailers don' t bother compressing the audio at all, and that really makes things choppy because it just adds to the load.

The Dead or Alive 4 E3 trailer that required monstrous specs to view stuttered and stalled like mad on my laptop,, but played oh so smoothly without a hitch after transferring it to a DVD.

I use VLC Media player I found @ www.tucows.com . it is super barebones and you better know your com' s file structure. But there is not a file I have not been able to play. the best part of it is that it takes mere seconds to load the program due to a lack of any other unnesseary crud.

Terry, how did you transfer it to a DVD? Did you like, make it DVD format? What' s the process? Was it still 60fps after you did that?

yeah, I had problems with the DOA4 trailer on my computer, but when I reinstalled my codecs it was silky smooth. Just do that, you don' t actually need a 3ghz beast to play it.

Team NINJA' s Dead or Alive 4 Trailer

# Windows Media Format

# Windows XP

# Windows Media Player 10

# 3.0+ GHz Processor

# 1.0+ GB of RAM

# 128 MB Video Card

# 1280 x 1024 Screen Resolution

# 16-bit Sound Card

# Stereo Speakers

lol

My computer only barely meets the minimum specs for it. Still plays well though.

DVDs can only play back 60 fields per second (not full frames), but it would look just like playing the game on your TV, basically. Converting the video to the DVD codec would also lose a lot of resolution. Well actually not too much since the Dead or Alive 4 video really isn' t in super-high resolution (it' s not even 1280x720, which is the lowest of the low HD standards).

Yes. I used Roxio' s DVD creation software, put a bunch of game videos onto there and burned that sucker. It played back very smoothly and in my predominantly drowsy state looked 60 fps-ish.
