The Last Samurai

I so want to be a samurai after seeing that movie. Has anyone else seen this one (I was a little slow in getting around to seeing it, but I am glad I did)? I thought it was beautiful.

About time there is a samurai movie.

I dont want to celebrate, I want to sell you hate.

Tom Cruise really did his part well here. I think they rehearsed the night ambush scene for like 6 months i think?
And his form is really good. I think his swordfighting form is better than Uma Thurman' s in Kill Bill.

I left the theatre wanting to be a samurai. I saw it again, what a cool movie.

I missed out on seeing it so I had to download it, but I plan on buying the DVD...which says a lot about how good the movie is. One of my favorite movies all time.

up until " the passion of the christ" this was the best movie i had seen in a long time. and i wanted to be a samurai sooooo bad, wanted to go buy some armor and just chop the hell outta every thing.

The movie inspired a friend of mine to do his research paper over the Samurai. I' ll be taking a little bit of the martial arts used by the Samurai, Aikido, myself.

I plan on picking this up when it comes to home video. I hate going to see movies in the theaters these days. But, it looks to be a good movie.

I went to the movies last night only to have it almost ruined by a bunch of punks from my HS. I saw Secret Window BTW, and it didn' t let me down. Depp continues to sling out great performances.

What' s cool about Depp is that he can get away with some real quirky roles and still make the big budget flicks as well.

One of my Favorite Depp movies has Christopher Walken. It' s called Nick of Time.

My fave Depp film has to be Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. He' s really able to let loose in this role and you actually believe it' s someone else entirely. For those of you who don' t know he plays a sports writer sent to cover some race in Las Vegas, but he and his friend (Benicio Del Toro) go on one of the biggest drug binges ever. It' s a great movie but might not be everyone' s cup of tea.

I actually quite liked Ninth Gate and From Hell, but Johnny Depp is a hero of our time. An accomplished actor who deserves a damn oscar - now.


Maybe not for Captain Sparrow (even if he did play the part really well), more likely for the millions of brilliant films he' s already been a part of. Now I have to go buy Ninth Gate, dammit.


As for Last Samurai, I arranged to go see it with a friends. Only one turned up to the first showing. The others arrived for the second showing so I ended up watching it twice in a row.

Fortunately, it was a good enough movie to watch twice in a row

I too came out wanting to be a samurai, much as I did after seeing Kill Bill.

I just hope that if I go to see the passion of the christ, I don' t come out wanting to be Jesus...people might not like that.

I just watched this last night and thought it was great.
I wish things were that way with like samurais and peaceful little villages and stuff.
I thought Tom Cruise did a real good job in the movie and the fight scenes were really well done.
It' s a must see for those who haven' t seen it yet.

I saw the film way back in January, knowing nothing about it. I was very impressed back then. It' s quite a long film and I didnt look at my watch once!

Also Tom Cruise is a brilliant actor in this film! I really recommend watching this.

Any idea on the DVD release date for this?

I' ve already arranged for the sum of 25 bucks to be set apart from the rest of my money to purchase this movie, even though I have a bootleg download on my PC.

I do as well but I may go and buy the DVD for the special features.
Probably worth it

Well relaizing the date today..i decided to make a quick stop at the local best buy...and there it was ..in jus a few minutes after typing this ill be watchign Tha Last Samurai jooooooy

How much did it cost?
I am considering to start a DVD collection and this would definatly have to be in there

I got it at BEST BUY for $19.99 US (excluding tax)

I suppose thats not TOO bad
Might go pick it up once I start getting paid

Ihadnt seen the movie prior to buying this DVD...it is one damn good movie...DAAAAAAAMN GOOD. I have yet to watch the special features tho. 2 disk set for normal priced DVD is all good to me

That is not a bad price at all, especailly for what you are getting. MassX glad you liked it. It is always risky bying a movie without frist watching it.

I' m always hesitant when buying a movie because I wonder like, am I really going to watch it more than only a couple of times?

Im a big collector. I have one of the largest libraries of games and videos(DVD & VHS) youll ever see. A lotta foreign and independent film stuff tho. I have yet to watch all of them. So far Ive only come across 2 or 3 that i could consider bad buys

HA! that movie is nonsene its just a hollywood samurai movie!. And hey think about it a white man as a samurai?.. NO WAY, old japanese samurai movies is much better.. Black and white peaple dosent fit to be a samurai its olny japanese peaple that is real samurais the other samurais is gaijins

Well as usual I got the DVD for free because im have connections to the industry. Now I can watch my free Rings DVD that I just got. Man I wish I would not have given away my Matrix Revolutions DVD before I realized it was Revolutions and not Reloaded. Oh well:)

Anyway, I thought The Last Samurai was a fairly good movie. I love this sorta stuff. I think that it was very symbolic. I highly recommend it.

This is one of those Underrated movies. Maybe it isn' t, it was up for an oscar(or academy award, I don' t really watch the shows). Cruise obviously did his share of hard work for this movie. I know what everyone means when they say they left the theatre wanting to be a samurai.

Good god people Cruise was appaling in this with his overzealous performance, the final scene almost made me throw up. Watabe was outstanding in this movie but it was only good enough, there have been far better samurai movies and is simply a western take on the genre...seriously though Cruise!? He really is quite poor in this!
