I' d say a tie between Eddie Murphy and Will Smith. Eddie Murphy has been in so many good movies like Coming to America and Beverly Hills Cop.

For me it is Christian Bale. In the roles that he has played in the past and his attitude has always been a representation of who I am. No, not like American Psycho. More like Shaft, Equilibrium and Batman.

Christian Bale. There arnt many actors as dedicated as he is these days. And hes not doing it for the money as shown in the Machinists where he didnt get paid massive amounts of money and also showed his dedication by dropping the ridiculous amount of weight.

And a very very close 2nd Johnny Depp. His roles are always so different. From biographical movies like Donnie Brasco and Blow to offbeat roles like in Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Edward Scissor Hands and duh Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. He' s quite good at adapting to different roles.

Johnny Depp, Denzel Washington and Edward Norton are my top 3 pics. Each has shown countless times how diverse they can be.

As already mentioned by other posters, Edward Norton, Johnny Depp, and Christian Bale rank near the top of my list as well. I must also add in Colin Firth as my delicious eye candy. I love that man.

Too many to list here, but names like I dunno, Laurence Olivier, Jack Nicholson, Derek Jacobi and Al Pacino are no-brainers for me. From the current crop of actors, I' d choose Edward Norton, Johnny Depp, Gary Oldman and Paul Bettany (this guy would make the perfect John Constantine) in no particular order. Oh, I also think that Sean Penn and Tim Robbins are slightly overrated. Great and absolutely professional actors both of them, I just don' t see the " spark" .

Edit: What about actresses? Again from the current crop I' d go for Cate Blanchett, Gong Li and Lena Olin.
