Where did you get those from? Personally speaking I don' t think graphics will be that good next-gen. Those images look too realistic to be real time.

These aren' t as impressive to me as those shots that EA leaked that they " claim" will be what next gen screen shots look like.

in the space of 20 years we have come a long way, just compare super mario brothers on the nes to these pics. I wonder whats in store for the next 20 years?

If those pictures are really what next gen game characters are going to be similar to I' ll be very, very happy. I just hope developers can make the game worlds as interesting and detailed as the people. Really it' s looking like Final Fantasy: Spirits Within quality stuff. Amazing!

Why is that guy' s mouth two or three feet in front of the rest of his face? Because he' s not perfect, like a blonde haired, blue-eyed caucassian is.

Why would a blonde-haired, blue-eyed caucasian be perfect? Sounds boring. I just don' t like Vin Deisel or anyone who purports to look like him.

hehe, just kidding. Anyway, i disagree about the next gen consoles not being capable of doing these type of characters in real time. After all, compare the difference between the PS1 and the PS2. Would they settle for anything less than that much improvement over the current consoles? I predict however that the next gen consoles will outperform PC' s more convincingly this time around. (after all, i still don' t think that a current generation PC can do Dead or Alive 2 at 60fps like the Dreamcast did).

It is impressive and yet it doesn' t make me go wow, like I did when I saw Shenmue, Soul Calibur or Jet Set Radio for the first time.

It is impressive and yet it doesn' t make me go wow, like I did when I saw Shenmue, Soul Calibur or Jet Set Radio for the first time. I agree, the Dreamcast WOWed me with some of the stuff I saw on that baby to the point that it' s hard to make me go WOW when I see most other games released on the more powerful consoles. Stuff like Ecco the Dolphin which looked damn near like a Jacques Cousteu BBC special thanks to the AMAZING graphics, Shenmue (bar fight was AMAZING), Dead or Alive 2, Soul Calibur, and even the original Sonic Adventure with its Fantastic textures, they all set the bar for me and while other current-gen titles may have inched past the bar they set, none of have completely Broken past it.

i agree with you their Jars, that is unlikey to be the real time graphics of the games themselves, that shot their was a highly textured and detailed shot, now try to put up detail and graphics up on your pc games, performance takes a hit? dosent it? now the same thing will happen here, the games wont look so nice with 60 enemys on screen, but i am willing to sacrfice it for 60fps. Hurr-ah!

What I find very disturbing in today' s (or future) gamers is the fact that the visuals are expected to be so realistic that the gamer can not tell the difference between a game and real TV. Games used to be made to look cartoony/less-than-real both on purpose and due to technology. Either way, the game was not considered good because of its looks, but rather on its gameplay. Look at how many current generation games really bite...graphics surely can help a game' s review score, but they aren' t everything. To this day, quite a few games that I enjoy playing are from the Atari 2600 / Colecovision / NES / SNES / Genesis days. The graphics are not like today' s, but the games were fun to play (and re-play). Even though I am a XBOX owner, I enjoy games like Crimson Seas and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy. These games are not 10' s in the graphics department, but they are fun as anything to play. I just think that too much emphasis is placed on how good a game looks, rather than if it plays well. That' s all for this rant...

Very true. And i think the really best example of a game where the gameplay far outweighs the graphics, (meaning the gameplay is so good, that you couldn' t care anymore how good the graphics look) is Fight Night 1. That' s why Fight Night 2 is like a dream come true.

I find it curious the way that these shots first hit the internet three weeks ago and then only blew up last week.

I think the inevitable truth is that... after the PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube generation, there is nothing much the next gen consoles can improve on except graphics. Can anyone tell me in what categories the PS2 improved over the PS1 other than in graphics and physics? (sound and online play excluded).

Your statement carries a lot of merit, jars... Not so much speaking for the PS1 or PS2, but more for the XBOX, I know FPS' s like Halo really came into their own on this console due to the innovative control scheme and obviously awesome gameplay. The AI improvements from the earlier systems to the current consoles would be an area that has improved for most, if not all, systems. Anyone else got anything?

I actually had to have my PS1 upside down for a while. The irony silentbomber is that my PS2 is on it' s side all the time!! Mabye that was just a ploy from sony so that we wouldn' t notice our PS2' s acting like crap cause they' re already on there side. As for the next gen, I don' t think that there will be as huge a leap in graphics as there was from the last gen to this one. I remember a big complaint from game developers when this last generation came out was that in order to truely make games look great you had to have incredibally skilled people and artists, and a lot of development time. With this generation going even further, that demand is only going to increase. I think it' ll be the people holding the next generation back, not the hardware. Don' t get me wrong, there are going to be some drop dead gorgeous games, but those will have the best artists with the best programmers, and a tonned of dev. time. Not all games are going to be able to afford to do that.
