What is your alltime favorite fighting game

i have to say capcom vs marvel 2 because of its great action and the fun value.

For me Super Smash bros. Melee. because of the chaotic manner of fighting and the best characters I have ever seen put in one fighting game. I also love the Tekken series so that' s another favorite.

I love Marvel vs Capcom 2...great game...I' d have to say my all time favorite would be Virtua Fighter 4. I just loved the fighting styles of all the characters.

It' s a toss up between:

X-Men vs Street Fighter (Saturn)
This game is awesome. I play it on the highest difficulty all the time because the game demands it. I love this game, and anyone who doesn' t will be banished to hell by St Peter.

Street Fighter Zero/Alpha 3 (Saturn)
Oh yeah, it' s even slightly better than the Dreamcast version! I love this game, and anyone who doesn' t like it deserves to get their skin peeled off by a potato peeler!

Night Warriors (Saturn)
This game was better than Darkstalkers and I can' t quite decide if it' s better than Vampire Savior. I think maybe so just because of the music and the fact that it has more backgrounds. I really wish that this game used a RAM cart... preferably the 4MB one. As it is the game is still great, with tons of options to unlock! Anyone who likes PlayStation' s " Darkstalkers" more than this game has an IQ of 3.

My top choice for fighting games goes to...(drum roll, please)...Soul Calibur II.

Second place goes to: DOA 3, and
Third place goes to: Mortal Kombat (either of the last two).

Videogaming is the contemporary interactive pasttime.

Soul Calibur 1 and 2 are definitely good games. I forgot about them because when I think " fighting game" I rarely also think " 3D" .

yeah i used to like playing Soul Calibur but its DOAs turn to take the world 4 a ride!

Breakers is a good one too.
Rage of the Dragons is alright, but i feel that part two will really be better.
Most of the King of Fighters series is good, i think 98 and 2002 are the best ( TO ME DAMNIT! )

3D: Virtua Fighter 3

Power Stone was pretty damn fun

But my all time favorite fighter would have to be (so far form the ones Ive played) DOA:Ultimate, but that could change once I finally play SC2. Ive never been much for old school fighters. I liked them in their time.

Soul Calibur 1 @ 2 were the best fighting games. So much fun spending hours upon hours playing these games until i couldnt do anything else.

Ok, I' m suer to get mocked here, but the fighters I had most fun playing were Street Fighter 2, Mortal Kombat 2, and ..... Killer instinct. There I said it. I just used to have so much fun watching huge 30 hit combos without actually having to do anything to get them!

...and i always felt that all fighter games had the same feel and redundancy to them.

hmmmm, now that' s a tough choice. The characters of Tekken have always had a fond place in my heart, if you ever go trying to learn about them. It' s a shame Heihachi died in the opening of Tekken 5 though.
I' ve recently been getting nto the mytholgoy behind the Mortal Kombat series, and it is very intrigueing. The latest game (Deception?) has a lot of multiplayer options and a nice 1-player story to boot.
Soul Calibur 2 is also very awesome. Sweeping soundtrack, lots of detailed characters and a variety of atmospheres that captivate the heart and the mind.
Of course, credit must be given where it' s due, the Street Fighter series has been the basis of all the fighters out there today. However, not being much of an anime fan, the style just doesn' t do it for me.

Overall, I would have to say Soul Calibur II.

No competition, it is for sure that Soul Calibur 2 is my favorite fighting game of all
time because you can buy different weapons for each of the caracters.

Halo 2 is the best game on Microsoft' s X-Box console every.

Overall, I' d say Soul Calibur 2 for it' s awesome combination of depth, atmosphere and sheer fluidity.

I was also one of the few people who actually liked Tekken 4. Third runner-up is VF4 Evo.

On the 2D front, Guilty Gear XX and SF3 Third Strike pretty much rule the roost IMO.

Artistic merit is more important than technical excellence

Before this past fall I would say Tekken, but after I got Mortal Kombat: Deception, i had to change. aside from the pain in the arse it was to unlock new characters, it was by far the best id ever played.

This is kinda difficult to answer. In terms of fighting games I got most into and devoted the most time to i would say

2D: Super Street Fighter 2 (Megadrive) (Genesis)
3D: Virtua Fighter 2 (Saturn)

In terms of what games I actually consider to be the best now (as they evolved quite a bit since those ones I mentioned) I would say

2D: Guilty Gear X2
3D: Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution.

Life' s a bitch, and then you die!

Guardian Heroes (Sega Saturn) if that is considered a fighting game.
If not i would say Soul Calibur 1 (Dreamcast)

Shenmue 2. its not really a fighting game, but you fight alot during the story

Without question: the VIRTUA FIGHTER SERIES.

Each installment has redefined gaming for me. Or at least what the fighting game experience should be, in the case of VF4... which also happens to be my fave overall.

VF1 = revolutionary
VF2 = tightest fighter ever, astonishing design
VF3 = too deep for its own good but perhaps the most beautiful a/v
VF4 = fighting game perfection, moreso with Evo and Final Tuned. Though I played VF4 more than either of its tweaked versions, since that' s when it was " hotter" .

Anyone who didn' t mention at least one VF among their faves is BANNED! ;-)

There is no excuse for not at least trying to get into VF - its balance and depth reward players who make the effort quite unlike any other game of its kind.
