GTA:SA - Oct 26, 2004 21:30
Admittedly I didn' t like GTA3 or Vice City. However, being ever the hard-headed type I pre-ordered GTA:SA (paid in full too). But before I continued through with my purchase I decided to rent SA first to see if I warm up to SA' s gameplay. I' ll post some impressions when I get the chance.

I' m tempted to rent SA too after GTA 3 disappointed me and Vice City eventually bored me to tears meaning that 30-40 hours into the game I still hadn' t finished it and had no motivation to go further.

But thinking about it again those 30-40 hours were fun and I can see myself liking an Andreas a lot more. Plus there' s the fact if I don' t snap up the game on release it' ll be a week before I see it on the shelves again.

Well I got my copy yesterday at 7 from EB. There was a line winding around the mall with people waiting to get their pre-ordered copy. Does it live up to its hype?

I think it does, and surpasses expectations. I was personally thinking that the graphics were gonna be a smidge smoother, and the aiming system more loose, but even with those qualms this is better than anything I' ve played in so long. This game reminds me why I like playing video games.

I don' t even think Halo 2 is going to impress me as much as this game has in only my first hours of playing.

I am loving San Andreas so far. But it' s so overwhelmingly massive. I won' t have time to play it all before Christmas 2005.

How massive is the story? It' s dragged me in and I' m having fun doing missions for the gangs in Los Santos. The other leading members of CJ' s gang are just great, Smoke being my favourite. Whilst looking forward to exploring more of the map I' m pretty content for the moment to just hang with CJ' s boys ^_^

vanswa garbutt, I’ve not gotten 2 player mode working yet but from what I’ve heard you need to be far enough into the game to have a girlfriend as that’s the character player two takes control of. Once you have one missions should start appearing round the maps, much like the kill frenzy missions in the other GTA games. I’ve not done this myself because I’m just not that far into the game but I hope it’s some help.

I bought the game the day it came out.And its awesome.

This game is worth buying a ps2 for.

The game is HUGE and i dont think ill get to the other cities before halo 2 comes out.

As for 2 player mode,I found it by accident.I was driving around and went for a big jump and landed right on the 2 player icon.It said put 2nd controller in and press any button.
The 2 player mode works like the hunter games u cant go far from each other since its not split screen.U also cant jack 2 cars at the same time,so when 1 player steals a car the second player sits next to him and shoots.

When 2nd player joins he can pick any character he wants.
And i found the 2 player mode without even starting the story.

I’ve found a 2 player icon. You need to get far enough in the game to do missions for the crooked police officers. I can’t remember the exact name of the mission but it’s something like ‘hot under the collar’. The mission involves picking up explosives then lobbing them at the 6 windows of a house. Something happens and you end up saving somebody and getting a girlfriend. Her house is then marked on your map as a love heart. Go there but instead of going into the red circle of light (which triggers a date with her) go to the door of her house and step into the red icon depicting two people. I’ve not done this yet as I’m lacking a second joypad! You' ll have to try and tell us the results.

Haha, the gang wars have just started properly in my game. Taking over new territory is soooooo fun!

I was just wondering about the music in GTA. Is it limited to just cars still?

Yeah, indeed. The music is good though, for the most part. I don' t know why but it seems to repeat music more. The radio stations keep including little news stories or comments about things which happen in the game. For instance doing missions at the start of the game killing rival gang members will spark a news story on ' West Cost Talk Radio - WCTR' about a rising level of gang violence. There are a lot more specific things I could say but that' d be ruining some of the plot.

Certain things happen to the stations the further in the game you get. An example; Also on WCTR is a talk show but something er... happens to one of the presenters. Later in the game listening to the same station you hear that Lazlow, after being fired from V-Rock and wondering in radio purgatory for sometime, has been hired to replace him. He then interviews two characters you' ve come across in the game yourself.

I didn' t pre-order it but i bought it the day it came out without any sign of hesitation. Once again Rockstar have proved themselves to the gaming industry and us, the public. It' s amazing that it only took them about a year to make it after Vice City...

It wouldve been cool to implement a walkman type thing so you can listen to music outside of cars.

Yeah that would of been good. I think they have made the map a little bit too big. It' s very easy to get lost in the desert and takes forever to get from Los Santos to Las Venturas or San Fierro. You could use the airport to get a flight there...Has anyone gone into the military base yet? It rocks!

The map in GTA SA is too freaking big.

As for the game itself i hate the part that sometimes the textures dont load in time.

For the first part, 99% of gamers out there would consider the size and scope to be a GOOD thing. For the last...like you said, it' s BIG. And you have no idea how little I care about it. It doesn' t happen often enough to matter in the first place.

The map is big but not stupidly so. I' m 30+ hours in and still messing about, not having Las Venturas even unlocked yet. It doesn' t really take that long to get from San Andreas to Los Santos, really. It just looks a long way.

Russian Mobster, I agree, that’s one thing which is slightly annoying. It doesn' t ruin the game but makes it loose some of its polish. The only time it becomes a problem is if the game forgets to load a wall or a tree until you are too close to avoid it. That’s only happened once or twice to me.

I was flying the remote controlled plane killing the carriers and i see a van and as i get close the trees appear and i crash.

Then when your driving fast the road doesnt load in time.So your going to jump off a road and a wall appears.

As for saying the map is big its actually a good thing it will have me playing GTA SA more then i played GTA 3 and Vice city combined.

But i still cant get into the airport.

Russian Mobster to get into the airport you must learn to fly in which you do this when you buy your airstrip for $80,000. It rocks. You get your own plane with it

$80,000???? How do you get that kind of money? I' m around the $20,000 mark now but even that took me an age. The only real money I have coming in is from Zero' s RC shop.

Oh, I' ve stumbled across a great site. It tells you where all kind of things are and is possibly most useful for finding all the tag, photo, horse shoe and oyster locations. Here:http://hem.bredband.net/708145/

Lol. If you use cheat though it shows up every time you save saying " One or more cheats have been used, this may affect this game etc" on every save file you have. Cheating is for people who are rubbish at playing games or people who want to have fun in them....
