Best platform game: Castlevania: Order of Eccleasia for DS (runenr up: PoP)
Best multiplayer game: Gears 2, thanks to horde (runners up: COD: WaW, Castle Crashers)

Best strategy game: Civilization (runner up: Endwar)

GTA IV will obviously win every major website/magazine award, despite the game being trash.

MY favorite is Fable II, but that will never win anywhere.

Fable II won G4's GOTY.  Everyone forgot about GTAIV a month after it was released. GTA is still just a bunch of mediocre games combined to make one big game.

Sorry that's too much for me, here's my top 5:

1) GTA4.  You lot have terrible memories and expected I don't know what.  This game delivered the best open city we've seen so far, the best GTA storyline and characters so far, and finally properly nailed multiplayer.  Defines the series for me.

2) Gears of War 2.  Just like the first one, but better in every way.

3) LittleBigPlanet. Entertaining platforming, but online co-op and of course the level design makes this my favourite new IP this year.  The fact that's the game looks absolutely stunning and Stephen Fry narrates made this easily my favourite PS3 exclusive of the year.

4) Fable 2.  For some reason, I was happy to pull pints for virtual bar flies for hours, but the world Lionhead created is the perfect antidote to cliched fantasy settings.  A great sense of humour delivered with a multitude of options for character development make this one of the few games I played through twice.

5) Fallout 3.  I think it was fair to call this Oblivion with guns, but for me that was no bad thing.  A good story, with plenty of entertaining side quests meant I had a lot of fun with this.  It was a shame it ended rather abruptly!
