Telemarketers - PET PEEVES - Oct 04, 2004 20:16
I get bombarded with calls from telemarketers day and night. When I lived in Texas I put my telephone number on the federal " do not call" list; however, I still got called but not as much. As per the following, I' m glad the court put this appeal down.

Supreme Court turns away challenge to do not call registry
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court turned away a challenge Monday to the federal do-not-call registry, ending telemarketers' bid to invoke free-speech arguments to get the popular ban on unwanted phone solicitations thrown out.

The court, without comment, let stand a 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision that upheld the registry of more than 57 million phone numbers as a reasonable government attempt to safeguard personal privacy and reduce telemarketing abuse.

Under the 2003 federal law, businesses face fines of up to $11,000 if they call people who sign up for the registry — unless they have recently done business with them. Charities, pollsters and callers on behalf of politicians, however, are exempt.

OH GOD do I hate telemarketers!! lol..

I mean I respect that they' re trying to make a living and all but that still doesn' t stop them from being annoying. Right behind telemarketers I gotta add the folks in New York City that stand on every block of Manhattan New York handing out cards and flyers... They' re practically on EVERY block, I kid you not. I have NEVER seen anything like it until I got to New York City. Actually they' re not so bad since they don' t push it on ya but having to encounter SO many on a daily basis does get a little tiring.

Oh wait, actually right behind telemarketers, and No offense to any folks that fall under this title here, but right behind telemarketers I gotta add Jehovas Witnessess, LOL.. Well specifically the ones I' ve encountered in Miami, Florida.. I can' t speak for any other territories as I haven' t had any first hand encounters with them elsewhere.

I wouldn' t mind telemarketers so much, if they only called for products and services I have agreed to receive further contact on.

But they don' t ask, they just call...and usually when you are eating or doing something very important.

BLAAAAHHHH!!!
