Nintendo announce DSi (camera/web browser)

o Thinner, lighter than DS Lite with bigger screens
o No GBA slot.
o 300,000 pixel camara
o SD card slot
o Speakers larger and have improved sound quality
o MP3 player
o Downloadable software (DS Ware). Wii Points renamed to Nintendo Points. Software price brackets will be Free/200/500/800 points.
o Built in web browser.
o Will release in Japan November 1 for 18900 yen (about $180), two colors: White and flat black.

I soooo can't wait to completely ignore this.

That SD card socket could be a Godsend - being able to park a bunch of PSN titles and MP3s on my PSP is probably the only reason I don't take the DS everywhere at present.

But will Nintendo provide enough in the way of downloadable software to make it worthwhile?

The SD card slot could indeed be a god-send, if it allows for home-brewers to make it so I can play ROMs directly from it.

...and both screens are now touchscreen.

Seems this will feature updated bios, wonder if Nintendo have took advantage of that and locked out use of M3's Cards/chips..

Lets hope not, although it wouldnt be long before m3 catches up..

Ive currently got most of the Neo-geo collection in near perfect form Due to M3 and NeoDS.. on the flawless D-pad, bright, lag-free screen and perfect button layout, it kicks ass.

There are plenty of games, but these updates are rather confusing to me.

I'm missing the point in having MP3, Camera and Web Browser support. Peripheral MP3 devices never manage to corner marketshare from devoted music players, turning it into a bullet point on a list. Most cameras have acceptable cell-phones, and frankly, the DS doesn't have the hardware to make a web browser appealing, even to those who don't have another handheld web-capable device.

  The original DS browser (sold separately) was slow and shit and they know it...  so hopefully Nintendo/opera take a leaf outta the Iphones approach. (though as mentioned, the lower resolution will cause a problem)

The camera's are obviously implemented  to broaden the creative software range the DS already excels in and certainly is; a good constructive move.

Two cameras facing in opposite directions could be used for some sort of positional tracking, but within the limits of remaining handheld.  Still there could be some fun to be had there.

MP3 player?
Web browser?
Downloadable homebrew/software?
Expandable memory slot?

Things like the R4DS have been giving DS users these things for years now. I don't see the appeal in this new DSi.

The improved screens, sound, and the addition of the memory card slot are all welcome, but giving up the GBA slot?  How the hell am I gonna play Guitar Hero on the damn thing?

It really is. Seriously, when's the last time you saw a 300,000 pixel camera? If thats not new in this day and time I dont know what is!
