What do You Want in the PSP2? - Aug 14, 2008 21:13
LINK

I've had enough revisions! I want my damn PSP2 already!

Edit: Thread repurposed.

So, with the announcement of yet a third major revision of the original PSP, I'm itching to find out what Sony has in store for us with their next major handheld hardware iteration.

While the PSP has lagged comparatively behind the ridiculously high number of units the DS sold, it's still held it's ground. While there are certain crippling features, namely the media, and the crippled control scheme, it stands out as a shining example of a decent multimedia device, especially when one runs custom firmware.

So, four years into the PSP's life cycle, it's about time to start anticipating the PSP2, or whatever it is they wind up calling it.

What could Sony do to even the handheld footing?
What features do you want to see in the PSP2?
Will they make a more traditional hardware leap, or will they attempt to follow Nintendo's lead into the casual market?

Discuss.

I don't have much interest in it.  But if they had a 2nd thumbstick it would definetly spark my interest.  All the good games use 2 now days.
Also a lot of general wi-fi internet type stuff would help it for me.  Good web browsing capabilities.
A high resolution screen, 1280x720 or around that is a must.

I can't wait to run down the street waving my arms like a maniac. Oh wait...

On a serious note:

A more varied and interesting games library, not just PS2 ports or almost identical games. It had it's gems but they were outshined by the leviathan-esque wave of said games;

A second control stick and a proper D-pad;

A decent battery.

They can also throw in a gimmick or 2. :P

The PSP is awesome, bringing only a generation away (or two) graphics to the handheld market!!.. Ok, It wasnt that much different from Gameboy, Gamegear and Nomad in their prospective times but hey, they was ages ago So PSP is a first! oK!..

Playing full (almost-ps2 level) 3d games on the fly is Da shit!!!, ok, it's Missing proper 3d controls but nevermind we have a D-pad.. (oh, thats shit too!?) oh, well.. it's got nice 3d graphics so thats enough!! AND I can watch movies, so take that IPOD!!! I can also pick up UMD movies Segamastersystem-8-mega-cartridge cheap too!!  (what? UMD's are about as dead as SMS carts?).. Who cares, it's got nice 3D graphics!!

Cannot wait for PSP2.

Will you be happy if they gimp it and add a gimmick?

Yes the PSP has shortcomings, but they could all be addressed in the PSP2.
-Better Battery
-2nd thumbstick
-New media type(Flash Memory is cheap these days)

Those 3 things could make the PSP2 a Must Buy.

Frankie boy, this is a discussion about what you would want from the successor to Sony's first handheld console... not about the original or Slim & Lite version of this generation.

Try and keep your bullshit contained yeah!?

-Clamshell design
-battery life
-640x360 resolution screen
-two analog joysticks (not nubs)
-analog buttons
-512MB or more built in system memory (ram)
-X86 CPU
-ATI or Nvidia dedicated GPU

Sony needs to grow some balls and ditch small form factor for the features we want.  Worry about shrinking the bastard a year or two later.

- mini Blu-Ray discs (probably not all that feasible now.) ;D

- Upgradeable mini hard drive.

- Dual analog nubs that can pop up as sticks when pressed down. Press them down again to return them to the nub position.

- Decent battery life. I was actually satisfied with the battery life of the current PSP given the horsepower of that thing.

- Significantly improved specs. Capable of better graphics than the original Xbox and the Wii but less powerful than the Xbox 360 and PS3.

- A non-Sony d-pad.. I DESPISE Sony's d-pad design for all of their control systems.

120x speed Blu-ray player

3 1080p displays with 3 HDMI outputs

14 or 15 analog thumbsticks.

3 d-pads (one Sony style, one NES style, another Sega Saturn style)

A whole bunch of buttons with new, never-before-seen shapes to label them as (naming buttons after shapes is brilliant!  Naming them after numbers and letters is logical and easily remembered and therefore LAME)

5 week battery life with 15-second recharge time.

Can play Game Gear and Atari Lynx games!!

300 TB hard drive for game saves.

Can be used as a colostomy bag.

Completely off subject, but this thread made me realize I haven't come in physical contact with a handheld console since some guy let me borrow his Nomad. That was a decade ago.

Since that thing only played Genesis games, I haven't technically played a handheld game since...

ummmm...

Ahh, I had a Gamegear. I stopped playing that when I got a car. That would be 18 years ago.

Some of you weren't born the last time I played a handheld game.

I'm old.

I also have VERY little interest in handheld gaming.

Matulog ako.
