Splinter Cell Chaos Theory to Include Both Co-op and Versus Multiplayer Modes By: César A. Berardini - " Cesar" Sep. 27th, 2004 09:57 am Ubisoft announced today that Tom Clancy' s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory will include the innovative co-operative multiplayer gameplay showcased at E3 2004, as well as the critically-acclaimed, wildly successful adversarial style of gameplay (known as ' versus mode' ) introduced by Tom Clancy' s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. Ubisoft' s Montreal studio is developing both the single-player and cooperative multiplayer portions of the new game, while Ubisoft' s Annecy studio, developers of the Pandora Tomorrow versus mode, is creating the versus multiplayer campaign. The versus multiplayer gameplay of Pandora Tomorrow completely revolutionized online gaming, and with Chaos Theory, this competitive, addictive game mode continues to evolve. " Tom Clancy' s Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow offered an exciting multiplayer revolution with the first multiplayer online hide & seek gameplay ever. Tom Clancy' s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory expands this experience by adding a new and innovative co-operative multiplayer gameplay, where the player will have to work with a partner to gather intel, using stealth and smarts," said Florence Alibert, Marketing Director for Ubisoft' s EMEA territories. " With Chaos Theory, the latest and greatest instalment in the Splinter Cell franchise, gamers will be able to enjoy both styles as they work together to prevent a global conflict of epic proportions, or fight against each other in the addictive adversarial mode." Players will work as teams and will compete against each other as either stealthy, third-person Shadow Net Spies with specific stealth objectives, or heavily armed, first-person Argus Mercenaries charged with protecting their compounds. In several completely new levels, players will have at their disposal a host of new cooperative maneuvers and interactions, gadgets and weapons, hand-to-hand combat actions, additional ways to taunt adversaries, and two game modes (see below). With destructible items, integrated climate affects that directly impact gameplay and totally redesigned visuals which to improve accessibility and immersion, the adversarial gameplay will make Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Chaos Theory the most diverse and immersive multiplayer game on the market. Versus modes: The main game will be Scenario mode. Each game level has a main game mode called Scenario, mixing different types of objectives (based on the Pandora Tomorrow game modes). It is called Scenario mode because of the mix of objective types. The level changes depending on the players’ actions (doors that open, lights that go out, etc.) and the objectives taken - all go to make up a real interactive movie. The different objective situations are as follows: Neutralization type objectives: The player must approach the objective and neutralize it by tapping away for a few seconds on the keyboard. Extraction type objective: The player must pick up a hard disk rack and then move it to safety in a special attaché case that’s used to transfer disk data. Bombing type objective: The player must approach one of the objective triggers and place an explosive charge. After a few seconds, it will blow up. Though the mercenary can defuse the bomb. There will also be a secondary game mode: Disk Hunt. Each level has a second game mode called Disk Hunt. In this game mode, a certain number of disks are placed through the level in a random manner (from a certain number of possible positions). The spies must retrieve a certain number of them in order to win (spies win when they possess the required number of disks). However, when they die, the disks they are carrying drop and are lost. When this happens, you should do everything you can to retrieve the disks without being discovered.
Videogaming is the contemporary interactive pasttime.
