Because kickball was already taken?? Besides, is not like a " baseball" is shaped like a base or " basketball" is shaped like a basket. It seems all three are named using things that define the game. In football, you are using your foot, so it makes sense. Unless you want to call it " Goalball' , which sounds retarded.
