Wii help!

Im trying to play on my Wii, but its not being very helpful, for unknown reasons neither of my Wii motes will work.
When i press 1+2 they just blink with 4 or 3 lights dependant on which of them it is. And nothing else happens.
I tried using the little red button under the front hatch, but it didnt work, maybe im not using it right though.

I got the stupid thing working again!
Forgot about the red button on the controllers!
