SQUARE' S NEW FANTASY PC MMORPG IN THE PIPELINE!

Not Final Fantasy mind, but Fantasy Earth: The Ring of Dominion.

12:42 Well, it certainly managed to keep that one quiet - Square Enix is developing a brand new, non-Final Fantasy MMORPG entitled Fantasy Earth: The Ring of Dominion for the PC. Well, we never.

It appears that knowledge of the game has been dug up courtesy of flyers distributed in the packaging of FFXI expansion pack Chains of Promathia, which has just released overseas (we get ours tomorrow along with the main game and Rise of the Zilart add-on).

While the leaflet is inevitably stingy on the details side, it does give a link to a dedicated website, which not only provides 10 screens, but also a rather excellent teaser movie comprising of cut-scenes and in-game footage.

Our impressions suggest it will be a kind of fantastical mix of anime and forgotten Disney classic The Black Cauldron, with demonic knights, large dragons, strapping castles, wizards and doe-eyed, magical protagonists aplenty. It certainly seems more ' Western' rather than Japanese in its mythological setting, which is somewhat surprising in its own right.

Sadly, the only other details seemingly disclosed on the site (which is all in Japanese anyway) is that Fantasy Earth: The Ring of Dominion will be a MMORPG for the PC. But you already knew that because you read it in the headline. Expect more titbits soon.
