Indian Xbox Boss Quits

GI.BIZ Mohit Anand, Entertainment and Devices manager for Microsoft India, is to leave the company in April. Anand has been with Microsoft for eight years during which time he has overseen the launch of the Xbox 360 in the region. Although the respected executive has not yet revealed his new employer or position, he told GameGuru that he intends to stay in India and work in a similar gaming capacity. " Whatever my next move is going to be, it is going to be within these spaces, which is technology." " The convergence of technology, retail, entertainment, that' s where I have specialised and built these skill sets and that is what I really intend to do," he said. GameGuru noted that rumours have suggested Anand may be working with Nintendo to establish a presence for the Wii in India, but the exec would not be drawn on any speculation. " Nintendo first of all hasn' t made any announcements on entering the country." " There are rumours and speculations floating around for that as well but all I will say is that right now I am not going to be making any formal announcements as to where I am headed," he said.

Damn !!! Mohit was a cool guy .. He was a regular at the official indian xbox forums and used to interact a lot with the 360 owners . He will be missed . M$ has done a very good job in promoting the 360 in India and i think Mohit was primarily responsible for it .

How is it in comparison to the Wii and Playstation' s presence in India. Have either of them even formally launched over there yet? All I' ve ever heard about is the 360.

Ps3 is officially available . But there is no marketing for it , no adds , nothing . 360 is slowly gaining momentum but the prices are still high , the core costs around $360 and the elite around $900 . If nintendo is planning to launch the Wii here then it will be the first nintendo console to be officially available here .

The average income in India, while growing, isn' t high enough for people to afford that.

true, but the population is so massive in India that you only have to aim for the top percentage employed in reasonable earning jobs to make the market worthwhile.

ORIGINAL: Ornodeal true, but the population is so massive in India that you only have to aim for the top percentage employed in reasonable earning jobs to make the market worthwhile. Thats what MS is aiming at . The games are now priced at a reasonable level and they just slashed the price by around $150 . The only issue now is that some publishers dont publish their games here because of piracy . Play-asia now has quite a good business in India and have now started shipping free to india .
