Virtua, your way of rating is totally flawed , therefore that final score is absolutly not accurate regardless of your judgement.
i wish magazines and website could follow a unique model of rating leaving the differences only for opinions between reviewers, we will see then some coherence between reviews internally within the same website or externally.
My suggestion is this:
in " almost" all genres, variable should be:
Gameplay
Graphics
Sound effect/voice acting
Control
Music
Story
Innovation
Animation
Multiplayer
i think that' s it, remind me if i forgot something, now here is the thing you are missing virtua:
you should give each variable a weight, and that weight differs from genre to genre, for exemple in RPG story should have much more weight than in FPS, in sport game music is not important ans so on you got it ..
so after summing up the total , you divide it over the sum of all weights to get the final score. Of course it' s a little time consuming but this might help us a lot to make a sound judgement and reflection of our perception of the game. Reviewers probably should do that instead of just approximating scores, ultimately you will end up with a lot of contradictions, because when the reviewers put their final score, they forget many aspects not to mention the strong influence of other review and hype.
Again this is time consuming but i think it' s better than what you suggested, otherwise we will be much better off with just approximations like what we always do. i' ll try Call of duty 4 following both models , if i have to approximate : i' ll give it a 9.5/10
following my model: (weights between 1-5), actualy the challenge here is to choose the right weights for each genre.
Gameplay 9.5 x 4 = 47.5
Graphics 9.5 x 5 = 47.5
Sound effect/voice acting 10 x 3 = 30
Control 9.5 x 5 = 47.5
Music 9.5 x 3 = 28.5
Story 8 x 2 = 16
Innovation 7 x 3 = 21
Animation 9.5 x 4 = 38
Multiplayer 9.5 x 5 = 47.5
Total : 9.4/10 ==> this will have a meaningful score if you review another SHOOTER following the same model with the exact same weights .
if it' s too long for you to read , screw you [:' (]
