I would think so as one of the achievements in the finished game is to play a whole song with a controller

M&K for Guitar Hero? Anyways yeah the controller works but its an odd as hell layout. Hardly possible to use. Maybe if you really wanted to torture yerself you could have a go with the gamepad method.
