Very few obejcts that people collect are made to be collectors items.
Stamps are made to pay for the delivery of a letter.
Bottle caps are made to keep liquid inside the bottle.
Coins are made to trade with items.
Clothes are made to wear.
Toys are made to play with.
Just as games are made to play.
But all of those items are popular items to collect, without ever being used for their intended purposes. People who collect things rarely have much in common with the people who use the stuff they are collecting. Collectors belong to a group of their own.
I used to collect all sorts of things, but eventually I almost got mad because of all the worthless crap I had everywhere. So I quit. No more collecting for me.
If you are interested in the concept of collecting you can look it up on wikipedia.
CLICK HERE FOR WIKI ARTICLE I' m interested in the psychology behind the urge to collect stuff. Is it just a regular hobby or is it something more. Humans have a natural instinct of collecting things for our survival but real collectors seem to have some other reasons. Perhaps, something is missing in their life?
