RE: TGS07 (more Ninja Gaiden 2 & some Yakuza 3) - Sep 12, 2007 18:51
I honestly don' t think Ninja Gaiden 2 looks very good. No atmosphere at all and everything just looks sterile. No impressive lighting, no impressive textures, art direction isn' t overwhelming and the backgrounds looks really sloppy.
I guess the gameplay is what matters in this game but... I can' t help but to feel a little disappointed.

I know what your getting at but i' m not worried in the slightest as i' m sure the gameplay will look great. Sigmas bullshots were highly stylized and i think these are done the way they' ve been done to show a stark contrast and press home the fact that it' s a brand new game and not just another revision.

When we see some of the more darker levels i' m sure you' ll change your mind...

Anyway, from Xbox.com:

* Exhilarating ninja action: Assuming the role of a ninja warrior, experience the new " finishing blows" system that combines gore with fast action and a well-honed combat system. In addition to a variety of brutal new primary weapons and enhanced versions of previous favorites, Ninja Gaiden 2 features both land and water-based action with advanced on-water battles providing a beautiful counterpoint to the land-based action.

* Easy to play, hard to master: Ninja Gaiden 2’s new auto-healing system featuring semi-permanent damage restored at save points is the natural evolution of the franchise’s distinctive gameplay, and introduces a new twist to managing health. Featuring a newly implemented auto-healing functionality and save point system, as well as an extensive story mode and multiple difficulty levels available from the start of the game, the gameplay is accessible to more casual players and challenging to even the most demanding gamers.

* Massive content and engrossing story: The themes of revenge and friendship in Ninja Gaiden 2 give rise to a series of dramatic events to create a truly compelling story. From Tokyo to New York and to the Netherworld, the story leads you through a 30-hour story mode as you skillfully maneuver Ryu Hayabusa through a demonized world fraught with peril and danger. In addition to the single-player campaign, upload Karma scores to Xbox LIVE® leaderboards and participate in an all-new Master Ninja Tournament.

* Realistic graphics in next-generation gaming: Built from the ground-up from Team Ninja’s in-house gaming engine for Xbox 360, Ninja Gaiden 2 represents the best in amazing visuals, responsive control, and thrilling combat with an extensive assortment of ninja weaponry.

30 hour story mode sounds good to me...

I' m liking the " Venice overwhelmed by a Japanese Ninja in Italy and brought
all the demons with him feel" , that water in the background is just begging to be
blessed by some serious water combat. Whilst the water combat in Sigma was okay
it lacked that bad ass feel, which I am surethey have delivered in Ninja Gaiden 2,
and I can hardly see Tomonobu Itagaki f@cking this game up, since Dead or Alive
2 he has been churning out games rated between 8 out of 10 to 9 out of 10
consecutively, and that is also with barely updating the engine, as he is one of the
few developers that realises gameplay matters tons.

Anyway, I can already judge from those screens that combat has been ramped up.

All I need to see now is a rolling gameplay trailer...

Oh, and Infinite Discovery looks nice, albeit like Crimson Sea on the Xbox.

Im much more looking forward to the DS NG, gameplay looks much more interesting.

Edit: this is asuming that the gameplay is the same as the previous like the graphics.

I' ve long been exited about NG2 and even though the graphics aren' t as great as I had imagined, the rest looks like what I had come to expect from a sequel to Ninja Gaiden. So why, for some reason, now that the screens I' ve longed for has been shown for me, I suddenly lsot all exitment? It doesn' t look bad or anything, but I just don' t feel hyped about the game anymore.

Infintie Discovery I dunno much about, but the little I can see in those screens fail to intrest me.

Yakuza 3 however has caught my infinite attention. I never played the older games, simply ' cause I thought they looked rather " Meh" , but this time, everything just klicked. I hope it' ll turn great!

Dionysius I wouldn' t worry, you' re still living in the age of promised tech demo' s
and stuff, I for one have ocme to the conclusion that graphics this time round really
aren' t going to get much better any time soon, that being said, i' m sure you' re excitement for the game will return fully revitalised when an actual gameplay trailer comes out...

Surprisingly, Ninja Gaiden 2 is being published by Microsoft Games Studios this time
around, and not Tecmo.... Which means, a fully-fledged 18 rated Ninja Gaiden 2
with all the flying body parts and blood to boot. YES!

Now someone get to work on finding a gameplay trailer...

yeah but come on. This is hardly realistic.

No matter, Hopefully the blood will stain Ryo' s suit and you have to wash it during loading time.

This game fails without it.

The blood is definitely insane, but that' s completely intentional... I' m sure it' ll look very cool in motion.

As for Yakuza 3, it looks fantastic... hopefully a 360 version is in the works as well.

Yeah Silent.

Pish posh, who' s talking about realism here?

He can fill the whole city with blood, then run on it and still kick ass. If anything,
there isn' t enough blood.

Of course you would think that afterthe de-sensitive fest that is Gears of War.

You should play games with more blood in them.

@Silent:
The dude runs on water, how' s that for unrealistic? Also, you probably thinking" How the *** did he chop off the guys head with a kick?" , simple, he' s wearing some type of claws for his feet. Beaten by Majik... damn.

Anyway, game looks great, I just wish we had seen that trailer instead of the CGI crap we saw. Ryu ga Gotoku looks pretty nice too, makes me wonder what would Shenmue III look like. Even the new camera is Shenmue' ish.

A game like Ninja Gaiden where it takes real skill to get anywhere, ...a game as hardcore as the Virtua Fighter games, ...and you' re not excited?

Devil May Cry has more " style" and better art direction, but the gameplay in the Ninja Gaiden games is fukking unbelievably badass.

Dragon Sword does look amazing, but i' m a true fan of the series and of Team Ninja games in general and i am quite happy showing my appreciation for both games, regardless of format. Yes, the DS version almost exclusively uses the stylus and that' s cool, but the core gameplay is no different, only the input method. Anybody who actually knows how badass Ninja Gaiden on Xbox or Sigma (sans the Rachel bullshit) on PS3 was will fukking love this.

But then, as has been shown in the past, there are people who honestly love these games and people who jusy say they do, ...for whatever reason...

Yep, true fan here. Getting all Ninja Gaidens including the one on DS, I don' t care
if I am dotting the screen with a stylus or waggling a stick ferociously, or
shaking a SiXAxiS up and down violently, the fact that it is Ninja Gaiden means I am on it like white on rice.

You can' t really say you' re a fan and then make comments like:

" Zomgrrzzzz it looks like Sigma but bloodier, I' m not buying it"

or

" Nintendo' s crammed up my ass so it' s just Dragon Sword for me, but hey
I am still a fan of it, I just like pointing and clicking my movements all day"

or

" Sigma was the first Ninja Gaiden game, Team Ninja, why' d you betray us and
go all Xboxorzzzz 360izzzz...??"

The game will be amazing and the reason you' ll probably find there' s barely been
a difference in gameplay mechanics is because the system behind Gaiden is one
that has been getting 9 out of 10 for the past 3 years and it' s so good, you can look
past the stuff that isn' t gameplay.

It' s funny how the people saying it' s the same thing over again play games like
Zelda TP and Metal Gear Solid.... Case of double standards, no?

He was a pretty much said to be the best swordsman in japanese history. For the japanese he' s kind of a super mega legend, the biggest samurai icon.

Yakuza 3 is by far the most interesting new game to appear at TGS imo!

Yes, Also for me Space Invaders Extreme (DS) No more Heros (Wii), Project O (Wii), Bangai-O (DS) and the News of DS blue Dragon although im not too bothered about the Game.

On a lesser Note Deca Sports (a Hudsoft Wii-sports type game) looked REALLY fun to play. Badminton... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOH.
