Colin McRae Dirt Demo
-
May 26, 2007 05:29
I read KIKIZO' S ARTICLE and downladed the demo. What do you guys think of it? I think it' s kinda fun and it looks great. But it' s not as smooth as Forza. I like thefact that you can have all the camera modes (including cockpit view). The grass and the environments look awesome and the drivers are actually the best looking drivers I' ve seen... I think. Some areas look kinda lame though but the lighting is really cool. I think rally games in general are really difficult because I can' t quite get the hang of the steering. This goes for Dirt as well. Playing it with the wireless wheel was a pain. The wheel didn' t feel very responsive, all it did was shake like hell. I was afraid the game would actually break the wheel. I doubt I' ll buy it because both PGR3 and Forza 2 are more fun IMO. And if I want a rally game I' d rather wait for Sega Rally.

Not really hot for it. Slick presentation and the graphics were lovely, but the handling' s just all wrong. I know it' s meant to be arcadey, but theres arcade and theres just plain wrong. Not got much hope for the new TOCA... Let' s see what the new Sega Rally is like.

It' s fun, but it' s a big disappointment to me that there' s no wheel-to-wheel online multiplayer -- just multiplayer time trials. Who cares about that? I want a rally game where my friends and I are relentlessly trying to nudge each other off the edges of cliffs. So, there' s no sale there from me. Sega Rally looks like more fun from an online multiplayer perspective, but then there is apparently no damage modeling and the courses seem to be limited to circuits. So both options of these two have drawbacks. If only they' d make Rallisport 2 backwards-compatible!

The game is technically excellent and the sound is fantastic, but i' m not a fan of sims and going into a spin as soon as you leave the track for a second is rediculous. I just didn' t find it fun, ...i expected much more and as far as i' m concerned if i want a sim on a console i' ll play Gran Turismo (and i don' t like anything but the offroad parts of GT4 ether) Forza 2 is lame. PGR3 is still my prefered racing game, although DiRT is pretty damn fun too.

going into a spin as soon as you leave the track for a second is rediculous. I like that. You can' t just put the pedal to the floor and drive like an idiot. Forza 2 requires precision. Playing without any assists and with manual transmission and finishing first in Forza 2 is waaaaaay more rewarding than finishing first in PGR3. I like to really concentrate on what I' m doing. I guess it' s not as fun without a wheel and I don' t know if you' ve played Forza 2 with a wheel... have you? The thing I like with Forza 2 is that it smells burnt rubber, gasoline and motoroil. While PGR3 and other games might be better RACING games to some, I really think that Forza 2 is the best CAR game. I still like PGR3 and Dirt but Forza 2 just plays better IMO. And I don' t like to drift which happens a lot in PGR3.

Playing the Forza 2 demo has actually helped improve my driving in PGR3. As for Dirt, I was glad they put all the wheel tuning options in the demo. But I' m beginning to come to the conclusion that playing with the wheel, while a lot more immersive and fun, is definitely more challenging than playing with the control pad. Although with the wheel you can have more precision in holding a line on a gradual curve, the pad has certain advantages too. Mainly that with a pad you can turn from the farthest extreme left to the farthest extreme right in the blink of an eye, and kind of unrealistically whip the wheel and feather through tricky situations that way -- something that you could never do so quickly with a wheel that rotates 270 degrees.

It' s ok, but nothing special, Forza 2 is on a par with Dirt. I admit to prefering TDU over both Dirt and Forza. The Buggies were quite fun but other than that, nothing great.

I doubt Dirt, PGR3 or TDU will get a Platinum award by Famitsu

It' s like gran turismo serie,its so-so.
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs! What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

I think most people here are saying, that there are better games out there than Dirt, I was hoping for something special, but it really looks like a Motorstorm knock off.

I played both Forza and DiRT demos, and while the former was good from a pro driving point of view, it just didn' t press enough of my fun buttons. DiRT however did seem a good laugh, and quite varied in its game types. So yep, until the mad rush of stuff in September/October this is the game I' m going to get.

The absence of wheel-to-wheel online multiplayer racing will keep me from buying it. It' s pretty fun as a single player experience, and it does look good. But any game I get has to have some pretty robust multiplayer experience and I was stunned that DiRT hasn' t got it.

I still say wait for Race Driver Year One as its using the same engine as seen in DiRT and can pretty much guarantee wheel to wheel racing in a huge variety of vehicles.

Dirt > Forza hands down. My only big beef is that when you' re doing stuff like the hill climb, if you go screeching off of the side you can' t see your car get wrecked. Motorstorm' s got it beat there.

I still think Forza 2 is much better. Not that I think Dirt was bad but I just couldn' t get into it. It' s weird, I usually hate simulators, and most racing games I' ve liked have been arcade racers. But Forza 2 really worked for me. BTW, I finally got Forza 2 today, hurray! I got the Limited Collector' s edition but it' s nothing special. The book you get looks like a cheap instruction manual and the box isn' t very exciting. It' s nothing like the Gears of war Limited Collector' s Edition with the tin box and the really cool art book. Even the Viva Piñata Limited Edition box was cooler

After playing both games today, Forza 2 kills dirt hands down. In Forza you can really ' feel' the road to a tee and has the best use of pad rumble ive felt in a game so far. Seriously, I would consider buying Forza 2 to all 360 owners (even if you did not like the demo, just trade some older games for it).. the Final game is magic, by far the best 360 game ive played.

Dirt is a fun diversion, but Forza is a higher caliber experience. Designing and trading cars, not to mention racing them, is going to guarantee a vibrant online community for Forza for years.

Dirt on PC might interest me with a good PC racing wheel like a Logitech MOMO or maybe even a G25.
