So, this month is the 40th anniversary of television-based video game hardware. The first console, the Magnavox Odyssey, was designed by Ralph Baer and Bill Harrison and was prototyped in a device called the Brown Box. Watch this video of the two inventors in a 1969 demonstration of their Ping-Pong game, with analog paddle controls for vertical, horizontal and " English" control of the ball.

For me it all began with the Commodore 64, with it' s 16 colours and 0.9MHz processor. My most played game was probably Gray Matter' s Fiendish Freddy' s Big Top O' Fun. It gave me nightmares! Probably...

I started button mashing with Atari, & I actually noticed what I was hitting had an onscreen affect by the NES.
