Historic day for Northern Ireland!!
-
May 09, 2007 01:36
" BELFAST, Northern Ireland (CNN) -- Northern Ireland' s major Protestant and Catholic parties joined together Tuesday to form a power-sharing government, marking a " new era of politics" and an end to three decades of sectarian conflict in the province." LINK FINALLY. After years of violence both sides have decided to share power! Finally there will be peace in Northern Ireland.

Just like that? I' m not complaining, but it seems a little too good to be true. Life changing moments like that don' t usually come about in 1 press announcement, but if Ireland can start a trend, the better to them. This does mean that I' ll be able to check out all of Ireland when I visit. Story Highlights • Protestant Ian Paisley sworn in as first minister as power sharing restored • Sinn Fein' s Martin McGuinness sworn in as deputy first minister • British PM Tony Blair, Irish PM Bertie Ahern attend ceremony in Belfast • N. Ireland' s main Protestant and Catholic groups reached agreement March 26

Well events over the past few months/years have been leading up to this moment. Its just brilliant to see it! Maybe in my lifetime I will see a united Ireland. I only want it to happen through peaceful and political means. This does mean that I' ll be able to check out all of Ireland when I visit. Yep and make sure you check out the west of Ireland.

ever since the IRA disbanded I have never heard anything from Northern Ireland.
Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine. Viva La Revolution! erm, I mean Viva La Wii!

I haven' t really even been keeping up with recent events in Ireland, so this comes as a bit of a shock. I mean, yeah I know whackjobs aren' t throwing hand-grenades into funerals anymore but I didn' t think it' d just stop.

all the people with the guns on both sides haven' t disappeared they have just realised that doing ordinary organised crime (bank jobs, extortion etc) makes more money and they are less likely to be hassled by the security services.
