movie plots....zzzzzz - Aug 08, 2004 17:04
Ok first of all i' d like to say that im avid movie goer. I enjoy all types of films ( except teeny films), and i dont mind silly plots as long as the movie itself is enjoyable. But lately, ive started to notice that most films tend to be ' similar' in terms of plot. When a certain war film is released, two or three other war films are released simultaneously. They incorporate the same ideas, the same moody leads, and the same i-left-me-gal-behind-story that' s been done numerous times before. The same thing happens to other genres.

Now. War films.I love em. WW2. Vietnam. Afganistan. These are the settings and locations they use all the time. Im not saying this a bad thing, but for once id like to see directors incorporate stories from other incidents in history. It doesnt have to be full-on ' war' , but a particularly small, yet terrifying events that have left a mark in history . What happened to WW1? or the fights at the River Kwai? When blak Hawk Down came out, i was estatic. Not because i love to see people getting shot or limbs flying around, but because it was fresh and new.

So im picky, but money doesnt grow on trees( trust me ive tried ). When i watch a film i wanna watch somthing different every time. Not the same ones over and over and again ( like that psycho remake- what a waste of time ).

Personally id like to see a futuristic war film. Like killzone. Sci fi settings with the atmosphere and tension of Saving Private Ryan. I wouldnt even mind a stone age war between neanderthals and dinosaurs. At least its new ;)

What would you like to see????

(If anyone knows anything about a new war film coming out please let me know thanks.)

How about movies in general lately... ZZZzzzzzzzzzz

Granted, there are a few good ones that squeeze through now and then like Kill Bill.

yeah kill bill was awesome. seeing that the latest trend for filmmakers is superhero and game conversions, a little extreme violence and decapitation is also welcome. Speaking of super hero films, i remember scoffing when i heard spidey was hitting the big screen. i didnt think i could take a colourful latex wearing nerd seriously. Now the same thing is happening to me again with future superh films. Nick Cage? Fantastic four? superman? please let me be wrong...again.

we' re suckers for hype all of us.

I agree, there is way to much false hype, and it isn' t worth it. Movie now adays are the smae old laclustre concotions. THe forumla worked before so they feel no need to fix it. Now, I do still shell out the money, because i, ever the optimist, honag onto a hope that this one will be better.

What would I like to see? I am not sure, i like a good warflick now and a gain (give me some rocking explosions and i am happy). I don' t even kow, my mind is so numbed by the same thing my creativity is gone.

Its also the certain ' fame' thats attached to the name of a film. For example, star wars Ep 1 and 2 were crappy in terms of dialogue and acting. But were we deterred by that? No. Despite the disappointment from Ep1 i still lined up to watch Ep2, just because it was star wars. And more and more directors seem to be getting away with this treachery.

Speaking of hype i wanna mention one film that really made me furious. HULK. nuff said. [:' (]

I agree, there is a certain credibility given to anything that is part of a well known and appreciated series. I confess, I bought into Starwars Ep 1 and 2, because of the first ones, and i hold out hope that 3 will redeem it all. But you know what, it is a shame. We as diehard fans deserve more! I don' t know where this rant may end up, so i will stop there for the night
