Xbox 360 = too many FPS - Jul 19, 2005 22:21
Of course everyone loves Halo. It is one of the biggest gaming franchises since Mario Bros. Everyone has heard of it. The launch for Halo 2 got world wide news coverage on every station. The question is though, is it possible to have too much of a good thing? It is a FPS that encompasses unparralled game play. So, does that mean now that since Halo is loved by all, and being that Halo is a FPS, FPS' are loved by all?

On the horizon, we have a plethra of FPS coming to the 360, games such as:
Call of Duty 2
Elder Scroll: Oblivion(FPS like RPG)
Ghost Recon 3?
GUN
Halo 3
King Kong
Perfect Dark Zero
Prey
Quake 4
Turok Next
Unreal Tournament 2007
Huxley
Duke Nukem Forever

With more and more FPS games being announced now, what seems to be on a bi-weekly basis, is this too much? Is there a such thing as too much of a good thing? I mean, they can' t all be Halo... can they?

but ghost recon 3, elder scrolls, and king kong all have a 3rd person option/element as well. Still tho it is a big number of FPS and at this point ive finally gotten sick of them to the point I almost completly ignore them, used to be a FPS whore. Chickapoo still gets me to play them from time to time.

I' m starting to think that maybe, this is what will bring down the 360. To many games in one category. If every other game being made for the 360 is a FPS that would be something to push people away from it, because of lack of game diversity.

An Xbox 360 without FPS=Microsoft not getting any of my money. It' s my favorite genre. It' s like saying the PS3 has too many RPG' s or some such nonsense. The reason for the high amount of FPS methinks is because of Xbox Live...the two kind of go hand in hand with one another.

I doesn' t mean there is a lack of diveristy, it just means the console has a lot of games coming. You could go and list all the other games that are being released for the 360 and it would actually come out failry balanced even if the FPS is the main genre.

I really don' t think it' s fair that you put Elder Scrolls as an FPS. Just because the game is played in first person( and it does have the option to go into 3rd person ) doesn' t make it an FPS. It' s a hardcore RPG. It' s the most hardcore RPG on any console, period.

Then with GR, it' s a 3rd person shooter with the ability to zoom in for shooting. That' s a standard in almost all 3rd person shooter games. If you watch the trailer, the character only moves in 3rd person mode if my memory serves me right.

The rest of the games you listed(aside from Duke Nukem) all look like they are going to be excellent titles. That list is basically a list of AAA title games.

To go on further about having a lot of FPS' s hurting the 360, that' s just rubish. There are people that bought the PS2 strictly for Madden. They wanted one game and weren' t scared off by the fact that there were a ton more RPGs(like Yosh said) then there were Madden games. the basis of this thread seems severly flawed.

One can also say that the 16-bit era had " Too many" platforming type games, but yet there were many timeless classics to be found.

2D shoot em up fans such as myself are wishing we could say that there are " Too many" 2D shooters being released nowadays but we can' t. While I' ve never been a fan of FPS games I say embrace the FPS flood while you can cause some day you never know when it' ll become a dying breed.

Yeah, I think there are way too many FPSs on Xbox 360. I, personally, can' t stand that genre, sorry Microsoft.

The 360 library will be plenty diverse when it releases. FPS are just the popular genre right now. I think people need to stop thinking about quantity so much, and concentrate more on this little thing we call Q-U-A-L-I-T-Y.

Microsoft has also been touting it' s relationship with Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of Final Fantasy). If you' re an RPG fan that' s just plain exciting news. As a matter of fact, Microsoft has been signing up a LOT of Japanese developers. As we all know, this means a lot of games that are NOT FPS.

No matter how it turns out, I' ll be getting the 360 this fall. I' m sure I' m not the only one, either. I can' t wait for the next gen!
