Xbox 360 HDMI cable $99.99 - Sep 05, 2006 18:25
LINKY

But it doesn' t ship until the 1st December 2006.

Since 360' s TV encoder is located on the Xenos GPU itself and is identical to the TV encoders used in the ATI Radeon X1000 series, then that means it uses ATI' s Xilleon display engine.

That is interesting because the the Xilleon display engine outputs up to 2560x1600.

The thing is; are we going to see a HDMI enabled 360 (allowing for 1080p games) or will this be just for the HD-DVD drive?!

If it really ships that is.

I' d ay it' s for the HD DVD movies , since their native resolution is 1080p.

If it doesn' t ship then the HD-DVD drive will be useless.

HD DVD Drive uses 360 to output video isn' t it?

You plug it to 360 via USB

Or did I get that wrong?

Why are these HDMI cables so expensive???

Wouldn' t the fact that you would need an HDMI cable for the 360 defeat the
purpose of them trying to make it cheap?

It seems that the HD era is going to be extreme;y expensive.

Only DVI and HDMI can carry a 1080p signal so there would have to be a HDMI enabled model.

So what' s the point of this cable?!

1080p is perfectly possible through component if your display enables that. It' s been said that this cable shouldn' t be longer than 1m for outputting 1080p efficiently.

The only reason for TV to outpu 1080p through HDMI only is that hollywood wants to control it.

Obviously you' ve never heard of Monster Cable!

I hope it' s not " required" . If I could get a 720p signal from their HD-DVD player through my component cables, that would be fine with me. My projector only goes up that high anyway, and the HD-DVD player that I had hooked up to it looked GORGEOUS! That was hooked up through HDMI though...! Hmmmm?!

Well, maybe I' ll just wait until there' s an off brand. I like the fact that someone made an adapter for the headset port so you could use you own. I hate M$ for using that proprietary crap! The way they had the Xbox was perfect. You could use any headset you wanted, and you could use any component cables you wanted, as well. That was important for me, because theirs weren' t long enough for where I wanted my Xbox. Same for the 360, so I had to compromise! Bastards!!

Why would you pay 100$ for a DIGITAL HD cable. You' d have to be insane! Do you guys realized that HDCP doesn' t work with anolog signals? meaning that you' re safe with component cables. As someone have already mentioned, component even does 1080p. So if you guys like fucking around with protected bullshit go ahead and buy your 100 dollar cables only to find out that your fucking LCD doesn' t support HDCP. So incase some of you guys are not getting all of this I' ll put it in simple terms:

HDMI=lose 100$ for HDCP bullshit
component=HD nirvana with free stock cables

If you want to give HDCP the finger all you have to do is go analog and keep the stock Component cables, there' s nothing wrong with them anyways. Besides paying 100$ for a fucking television cable is retarded. For a hundred bucks you could have a gourmet steak dinner and a lap dance...think about it.

Just because the AACS has yet to implement the Image Constraint Tokens doesn' t change the fact that Blu-Ray movies are already copy-protected with HDCP - it' s just that the flag isn' t raised automatically yet. PS3 and Blu-Ray/HD-DVD players may be able to output 1080p through component (for now) but there are very few televisions that will accept 1080p signals through anything other than a digital input such as HDMI!

It could pose problems for those wishing to get 1080p from their games if they' re stuck with a HDTV that only has component inputs. Not that that really matters though as very few games will be 1080p.

HDCP works like a digital handshake, so even if you use component cables that are able to carry a 1080p signal, and you don' t have a display that accepts the signal through anything but HDMI/DVI you simply won' t get a picture.

Also, according to Sony' s official site, there will be no 1080p output for Blu-Ray unless you have an HDTV with HDCP compatible HDMI inputs. You think that' s there by mistake?!

And yes, paying $99.99 for a HDMI cable is " insane."
