Wow! Never noticed the vast graphical difference between GT3 and SGT2002 until today

I was at work today, and I was pondering whether or not I wanted to purchase Sega GT 2002 again today. I' ve been itching just to have a racing game for my X-Box again, and only the Sega GT series has ever pleased me as far as sims go. So I decided to pop Sega GT to basically bring back old memories I suppose. The game still looks great, IMO, and still plays great. But where I work, we have set ups for both the PS2 and X-Box on opposite sides of the room (it' s a small room). And we had copies of GT3 A-Spec just litered around the room. So I figured hey, what the heck. I threw in Sega GT 2002 in the X-Box, GT3 A-Spec in the PS2, completed one race for each system, and just sat back and watched the replies side-by-side. Not counting all the blatant added effects during the replays, I was astounished at how much more " realistic" GT3 looked compared to Sega GT. I don' t even remember just plain old GT3 looking that good. And it' s not that Sega GT looked bad, in fact it still looks real good. It' s just that I was taken back at how much more of a " videogame" look Sega took with Sega GT, and how much more of a realistic approach Sony took. Watching them side by side, GT3 A-Spec definitely had the leg up on Sega GT 2002. And they both were hooked up the same way with the same TV. However, I guess it is important that Sega maintains a distinctive style with Sega GT. Something to make the game feel seperate from GT3 and make it stand out. Much like the Sega I' ve always known, they didn' t just try and copy what Sony did. And that I am happy about. On a different note, I didn' t realize how similar the handling was between the two games. The cars in GT3 seemed to have more " weight" to them, but I was basically getting the same response in GT3 A-Spec that I got in Sega GT 2002. I think they' re both great series, and I do prefer Sega GT 2002. I just think it' s a shame there has to be such a split line between the two thanks to some fans. The One, The only One - The Lotus One P.S. Sorry for starting a seperate Sega GT thread so soon. I just felt like the purpose of the two threads was too different to combine the two.

Indeed I thought Gran Turismo looked better, especially the cars and in some cases the trackside detail. Texture wise, SGT takes pole position though. I was a little disappointed visually with Sega GT after buying it and hoped it would look more than a souped up DC game (maybe being to harsh?). Still, it had loads of depth and gameplay wise was fantastic. Overall I prefer Gran Turismo 3 for look and handling, but can' t understand why so many people slagged off SGT compared with GT3. Personally I would have to own both (and I do) as they are well worth having. Plus they' re on two seperate consoles so why should there be so much close conflict between the two.

Kinda off topic, but if I had to rate my favorite racing games it would be: PGR GT3-Aspec SegaGT GT3 relies heavily on photorealistic approach to instill " realism" into the game. From a technical standpoint, its a cheap trick to " graphical purists" . But overall, it makes for a better looking game. What really strikes me about GT3 that I will give props. without hesitation is the homework that Polyphony put into GT. The physics of Sega GT just dont feel right to me. Its a fun game and a solid effort, but the quality that GT has is sorely missing from Sega GT. To me PGR is a perfect melding of the two games which is why I think the game is tops. Of course many will disagree with me.....
