Unreal Engine 3.0 on Revolution?
-
Jan 27, 2006 18:23
Midway is developing a new FPS for all next-gen systems - game is based on Unreal Engine 3 and is confirmed for Revolution. It could mean that Rev is capable of more than we think - or something else , who knows :)

I' ve mentioned the Unreal 3.0 engine on Revolution previously. Epic are talking about a version of UT2007 for Revolution to be played with... [image]http://www.1up.com/media?id=2308851&type=lg[/image] Hopefully! I think people will be surprised by Revolutions visual output!!!

Frame City Killer looks terrible. Not only is the whole premise stupid, but have you seen the glasses the guy wears? F*ckin rubbish! Namco need to stick to making games they know how to make. Tekken 5 was a great return to form and the PSP version of Ridge Racer was good, but stuff like Death By Degrees and Frame City Killer need leaving to other development studios. They also need to do something different with Ridge Racer (why do you think there' s no RR6 demo on Live?!), because with games like PGR3 and Burnout 360 (Revenge) they won' t be able to compete in the racing game market. Unreal Engine 3.0 is great and i' m sure that it' ll look really impressive on Revolution too, but i don' t expect 360 quality visuals.

Be aware that all unreal engines(Even 3.0) are very scalable and versitile. So games on any platform, could be done with the 3.0 engine. (includes current generation hardware) It doesn' t have to be a graphical opus like gears of war to run on the revolution, any game could be written in unreal 3.0 and you might never know, just has to have some soft of hardware T&L a pixel shader, and maybe a vertex shader. I heard a rumor that ATi was rallying the RS480 chipsets(radeon xpress 200) for use in a future console, and i bet that' s the rev, good price, decent performance.

I just tried looking to see where i might have picked it up from, but i think it was just speculation on the tom' s hardware guide forums, and could be base-less. But i come to think about it and it seems like a good canidate, so on my part i can safely say it' s that or something similar, like the 9100 igp. Or perhaps something along the lines of an intergrated x1300. Either way it has to be effective and inexpensive.

no that' s definitely bogus - Guys at ATI said that the GPU is totally unique , just like the flipper for GCN. Nintendo came to them and said what they want - Ati is just realizing N' s vision. They confirmed that it is completely new design that has nothing to do with their PC product line.

Everything that' s in the revolution is specificly designed for the console.. it' s not built on PC parts.. atleast Ati have stated this.. I do however think that the revolution will have a custom built cpu from IBM (like the ibm flipper in GC) and not just a G5. It will be interesting to see how good the visuals are on the big N' s newborn, but gameplay is the most important thing really, no matter how good a game looks if it doesn' t have good gameplay... it' s crap...

guys wii dont support unreal engine 3 instead it can support a cut down engine of unreal eng 3 with lower resolution , particles , textures it can be done but it will not be the same just like splinter cell chaos on ps2 and xbox 1 you can see many difference sorry but wii have the rev controller it best for fpshooters that means better gameplay if they supported

Just because it would have to be scaled back to make it run on " Wii" doesn' t mean it' s not Unreal Engine 3.0. Not that it matters whatsoever. Oh, an Chaos Theory on PS2 & Gamecube ran on a different engine to the Xbox version. That' s why there are massive differences. Technically Gamecube could probably output the kind of visuals Xbox saw and in a small number of cases it did, but unfortunately the Gamecube version of Chaos Theory was neglected and looked horrible.

i know that. but you said by yourself just now. you think that ps2 version of chaos theory running on a different machine but the truth is that is the same but cut this cut that and here you think its a different one because of the big cuts. the same it will happen to wii.for that i said it cant be done you will think again that it will be an other one. just like pcs run farcry on a low and pc and on a hiend one you will think that you seeing two different machines.

You have no idea on Wii' s specs so you can' t say that UE3 willb e cut back for Wii. An engine is just the backbone, a pre-made set of commands for rendering stuff ont he screen and networking/game design tools. You have to do some serious work to get a game out of them. So UE3 has no limits if you port it to anything.

Wii will definetly support all of the Unreal Engine 3 features. Just because they are using more of a budget GPU doesn' t mean it doesn' t support all of the things the expensive GPU' s do. Take a geforce 6600 versus what was new at the time then 6800 for example. Both cards support everything the other one does, the only difference is the 6800 has more raw power. The Wii will still support shader 3 and soft shadows and all that other crazy UE3 stuff. Games will still look awesome they just will be in low definition and not have quite as many polygons or shader detail as on xbox 360 and PS3.
