The best thing about the Sega Sammy merger = - May 19, 2004 14:24

- In addition, Sega announced that before the merger, all seven subsidiaries (Sega WOW, Sega-AM2, Hitmaker, Sonic Team, Smilebit, Amusement Vision and Digitalrex) will be integrated back into Sega in July 2004.

Sucks that it took the merger to finally make that happen but at least it' s finally happening. ;)

Cool, I missed that, but does it mean each studio loses its identity now? Even AM2?! Nooo!!!!

Thats not good. Every studio has its own strengths and should stay seperate.

Remember when the seven subsidiaries of Sega went " independent" a few years back? Chances are teams like AM2 or Smilebit will still be around but now they' re " officially" owned by Sega.

Or at least that' s what I gathered.

Currently all of Sega' s dev teams are all 100% owned subsidiaries of Sega, that produce games for Sega on a commission basis.

I' m not sure what this means TBH. Are they moving all of the dev teams to one main location? Anyone have any ideas on this?

The way I see it, they were all under the Sega umbrella before and they were still separate gaming divisions within Sega. Remember AM3? I believe there was an AM4 and AM5 as well.

I think they' ll still remain as separate divisions once reintegrated within Sega.

To tell you the truth I never understood the big deal about the split and name change in the first place, other than the name change they pretty much worked the same way they did while under Sega, I guess maybe they had more creative control as independent subsidiaries.
