Toe Jam and Earl This game only got my attention when a friend brought it around and we could do two player. Wow it was great, so great i bought it the next day. the story is you have landed on earth with a bang and have to collect your ship parts to fly back home. Santa also drops presents along the way to aid your cause, while humans are scared of you and will do anything to kill you.
You start off on a map that looks a bit like england, find the lift is your task. Easily done, but theres a few presents as well to pick up. You get in the lift and what ensues is a small moment of comedy and funky music. The lift takes you up to the next level.
Each level requires you to find the lift although some have space ship parts you' ll need to find. The way the two player works is brilliant, both play on one screen but when you get to far away the screen splits into two for you to both carry on.
The humans are some of the best baddies ever, from the guy on the lawn mower, the boogy man and even an ice cream truck. They are all unique and funny, if very annoying as they try to kill you.
theres loads of neat touches such as finding santa claus dropping presents for you, getting bird wings, burgers, running shoes, and if you fall down a level you can fall all the way down to the begining.
Toe Jam and Earl 2: Panic on funkotron More of the same? Not at all.
Changing to a side on format with much improved graphics. The story this time is to capture the humans who got a free ride on your space ship by clinging to the outside, and you' ll need to send them home.
Presents are hidden in trees you have to shake, ones that run from you and floating in the air. Most are points but some are very very clever.
Theres also a few puzzels such as hitting buttons in the right order, chatting to people and helping them out, and also using funk to pass through small walls. Theres also a rapping game where you have to push the buttons in time with the beat.
The graphics are top notch, the sound even better and everything about it is sublime, so many little touches, it really does feel like an alien world, but a nice one rather than a scary one.
But the best bit of all has to be Hyper funk zone. Collecting a special power up your transported into a pastel coloured world where nothing is solid, this is more of a bonus stage where you have to run through the level as fast as you can, collecting as much as you can without hitting a door and being transported back. Hearing the guy say ' HYPER FUNK ZONE' and ' YESSSHHH!' is loverly too.
The idea of the game is to capture the humans in jars, throw a car at them, capture them. Although some take multiple jars, you even get super jars which catch people in one go, or a vaccum cleaner to suck up all earthlings near you which are then placed into jars.
Toe Jam and Earl 3 Not much to say about this one, with my limited playing but it seems to be the first game but in 3D with a few subtle differences, theres a minor story and the idea is to make the earthlings like you, they' ll give you money with which you can buy things to help your quest for the lift and also finding pieces of the funkopotomus' s records, which contain funk.
Two player is well worth playing and enjoyable, and presentation is top notch with loading screens taking up by singing people, also hearing toe jam and earl speak, they sound just like you thought they would. Not great in single player, but 2 player all the way!
