If we fail, it is because we positioned PS3 as the Mercedes of the video game field. PS3 is after a different audience and it can be whatever it wants — a home server, game device, even a computer."

Is he stupid or something? You can' t even say the word fail or failure or similar if you' re tlaking about your company' s future.
" If we fail..." WTF?! He openly admits that there' s reason to believe that they might fail.
Smart companies say " Don' t worry dear customers, we WON' T fail"

In a way, that means the PS3 should have a wider market... Btw, is it possible to dismantle a console and use its innards for modding a computer? Just asking...

The focus in Japan has moved to handhelds, with DS leading the way. The games market in Europe on the otherhand is blooming, comparable even to the US. That' s why companies like Capcom are catering more to western audiences and adopting western development methodologies.

Who would use the PS3 exclusively as a server or computer? No one, you' d have to be mentally challenged. I doesn' t have a wider or different market except as a BluRay player but the PS2 had a DVD player so it' s hardly different this time. The only difference is that the PS3 is more expensive.
Stringer was trying to justify the price and just makes himself look incompetent.
