So how is Dead Rising?
-
Aug 29, 2006 10:02
My GF purchased me an XBOX360 and I want to know if this game is worth it. I am also considering Ghost Recon and Project Gotham. Any other games to consider? Terry what was that cool-looking Capcom game at E3 with the guy wandering around in the snow? That looked awesome.

Geometry Wars is soo overrated, Its Mutant Storm is the live Arcade game Joe should find most compeling.. The game is such a deep yet simple shooter. Look at the top scores worldwide and you will see the Japanese lovin this game. Allways a good sign of a good shooter.

I do not like playing games online. Well maybe once in a blue moon. So nobody has ever played Dead Rising? I must have Lost Planet. Release date?

I enjoyed Dead Rising immensly. You go in thinking its all about zombie slaughtering (which there is plenty of) but come out with something much more. The only real complaints is that of the Save System. It' s frustrating somtimes when you couple it with the time limit. It' s hard to explain but during my first few run thrus I found myself restarting on accident. If you die basically and feel done for the day DO NOT SAVE AND QUIT. What that does is save your stats and then restarts you all over with your gather stats. The overall gameplay and is fun but challenging. If your stats arnt high enough and certain enemies just sort of get sprung on you and you havent saved there' s gonna be some frustration involved... Ok you know what I cant really explain it. All I know is I enjoy it quite a bit and the only fall points is the save system and Otis constantly chiming in with new info. Otis wouldnt be so bad if you could keep fighting while he' s talking or if it was optional to answer his calls without him nagging til you answer. Aside form that theres is boatloads of things to do and you have to manage accordingly. You dont have to do a single side mission but you' ll find it benefitial if you do attempt them when times allows as there are several endings depending. And you need to get one ending specifically to continue the game to its one true ending. And to open up its challenging and life extending Survival Mode.

Ghost Recon and Project Gotham are definately must-haves. As for the rest of the games, the vast majority have demo' s available for download on Xbox Live Marketplace. The Lost Planet demo is awesome and will let you check it out firsthand. If you don' t plan on playing online then you might want to try and pick Ghost Recon up cheap as while the campaign game is superb it' s the online that gives it so much replay value. I would recommend DoA4, Oblivion and Top Spin 2 too. Most of the other games (with the exception of the sports games) are best online so you might re-consider your stance on online gaming... As for Dead Rising, there' s a demo on Marketplace and that' s all i' ve played as the PAL version hasn' t been released yet. The demo blew me away and it' s likely my next purchase. Some people found the control method odd (as you aim with the left analog stick) but i found it almost exactly like RE4 except you run in whatever direction you push the stick in (like an MGS game). Anyhoo, what are you initial impressions of the console Joe?!

Anyhoo, what are you initial impressions of the console Joe?! Won' t have it for a week or two since it was ordered from some online place. And with stupid-ass Labor Day getting in the way, that' ll delay it even further!

I like Dead Rising. It' s a lot of fun to just run around and bash the living hell outta zombies. I' ve gotta disagree with you though, Mass. I think the save system is pretty cool. I just go around and bash zombies, take pictures, and escort survivors for a while, and when I die, I just start over every time! It' s kinda weird, but I' ve levelled my guy up to 15 or 16. As you go up things get a LOT easier, and you get to know the layout of the mall better, AND you can do the missions easier. I like that! Joe, the one thing that I can say is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY is that you go online at least once, and register for a silver account. That way you can download all the demos and arcade trial games. Even if you don' t play online it' s worth it to just go on and do that. I mean, you could be playing Lost Planet THE DAY YOU GET THE SYSTEM! That' s just cool!

Basicly means, If you get 3 red rings on the 360, You have to endure a lengthly replacement process which involves waiting a few weeks for another 360. And No Guarantee' s that one will ok either. Its a doubled edged sword, Only difference, Both sides hurt you.

lets all hope you dont have to go through that ' 3 red rings' Fiasco. Grrr... Don' t get me fricking started on the Red Ring of Death! Booted up my BARELY A WEEK OLD Xbox 360, to play some Call of Duty, and what do I get? Yup, the good old Red Ring of Death! I immediately start freaking out and calling my brother over to see what the flip he did to the machine. After thoroughly assuring me he did nothing to the console. I start to get my composure back, and turn the console off. I turn it on, and I get the Red Ring of Death again. Finally, on the third try I hear the whirring of the fans, and see the little green lights start to dance again. If it pulls it again, I' m sending it back for repairs, because I don' t think I could survie another shock like that. Back on topic, Dead Rising is an excellent game and the save feature really isn' t as aggrivating as everyone says it is. However it is still $59.99 so you could pick up GRAW and Call of Duty 2 both from Ebay for the same price. Which will both last you just as long, if not longer. I guess it' s just a matter of preference.
