Oblivion is boreing. Its the sorriest excuse for a roleplaying game ever created. Diablo has more roleplaying that Oblivion!

Oh thank god! I was hoping they would do this. Yeah, I' m the one guy on the planet who owns a 360 and has absolutely no interest in LIVE. I don' t want demos. I don' t want to play with a bunch of strangers. The only reason I would hook up is for downloadable content, and so far nothing out there has interested me enough to do so. The only thing that got my attention for a second was the Oblivion expansions, and I knew they would release a GOTY version eventually anyway. Now, I don' t even have to buy that I' m glad at least Bethesda understands me.

Oblivion is bad!! says the guy who has all achievements, but i discovered it before it ate my soul! Oblivion is fairly nice looking, though some of the humans look like monsters. The combat is terrible, there are no dialogue, the quests are super generic and the main quest is forgettable. Sometimes i think Bethesda bribed reviewers.

You know Vx Chemical, it doesn' t matter how many times you say Oblivion is bad, I still enjoyed it. There' s not another game out there that even comes close to delivering the experience Oblivion does. You find me a good substitute for Oblivion, and I' ll stop playing.

Actually I' ve noticed that my style of play in both is really similar. Everytime I' m using the wrench I get smacked in the face while I' m trying to block.

Fallout 1+2 Planescape Torment Arcanum Baldur' s Gate 1+2 Knights of the Old republic 1+2 (though to a lesser extent than Fallout 1-2 and torment) Fallout series had freedom, serious branching dialogue. Torment has the best story ever written for a game Baldurs Gate series are great Kotor are good new age RPGs but the lack somewhat in consequence and they are linear, you cant talk yourself out of most encounters like fallout and torment. Oblivion simply has nothing but graphics going for it. The level scaling is horrid, combat is boring (100 arrows to down an ogre) The magic system is cool though, i like making my own spells. I liked oblivion at first, but upon replaying older RPGs and reading some of the statements Hines said while developing Oblivion made me realize how much they cut it down. Its like on consistant all over. after saving kvatch, you can go into a town and the guard will greet you as the hero of kvatch and then talk to you afterwards as if he never heard of you. I dont know, feels like the made it look nice and then sold it on that. Daggerfall and to some extent Morrowind were much better RPGs

I never liked those old PC roleplaying games primarily because of the perspective. I hated it. I actually gave away my copy of Neverwinter Nights because I just can' t stand playing like that. Everything feels like Gauntlet+resource management. Click-Click-Click repeat. Morrowind was the first computer RPG where I felt like I was actually playing as a character who reflected myself. The immersion was instantly addictive. Instead of telling a sprite to do something, now it' s ME swinging my sword and throwing spells. l absolutely love that. Immersion is the #1 thing for me in RPG' s. All games really. I will agree that the scalable creatures were overdone in Oblivion though, and the idle conversations were ridiculous. I' m glad Bethesda decided not to go that route in Fallout3. I liked Kotor too, but it doesn' t have that Morrowind/Oblivion immersion factor. Same with Fable. I' m really looking forward to Fallout 3. It looks like something I can really lose myself in.

Immersion is such an overused word especially in bethesda interviews. I dont mind playing rpgs in the first person perspective, but one thing thats been missing from all fps rpgs is true dialogue, and the fact that you dont have to kill everything. A pretty gameworld is nothing when the game is shallow. Bethesda seems to be shaping up partly for Fallout 3, unlike oblivion you will have to replay it several times to see everything, in Ob its stupid that you can be in all guilds at the same time, and it sucks that there is only one way to do every quest in the game. Too bad troika ran out of money while making Vampire, it would have been a masterpiece

BioShock. So Oblivion isn' t an RPG but Bioshock is? False. Oblivion=Action RPG Morrowind is more of an RPG than Oblivion because it uses a dice system for hit detection. Oblivion doesn' t have any single strong RPG elements, but a number of things tag it as an RPG. Bioshock=FPS Power ups and a good story doesn' t make Bioshock an RPG. Bioshock can only be called an RPG under the loosest definition, as in any game is an RPG because your playing a role in a game. At best it' s a FPS with some RPG elements. In general the easiest way to spot an RPG is if you' re controlling a group at once. The TES series is an exception as it used a dice system. Oblivion is somewhere in the middle. I' d say it' s still more of an RPG than anything else though.
