There have been rumors and such but as of right now I' m not sure what is going to happen. Yu Suzuki is no longer a member of Sega. That kind of leaves it up in the air. I' m not really sure who has the rights to the title at the moment but I have a feeling we won' t be seeing this game all that soon if ever. Rumors spread that Shenmue 3 would be a movie done in FMV. This came from reports of Sega not giving Yu enough money to fully develope a third in the series. This would give closure and finish the 15 chapter series(I think it' s 15 chapters) but lack the interactivity and basically not be a game. Yu is now in his own company, Digital Rex- http://www.digitalrex.jp/. I' m not yet sure what his new developement team is planning.

Technically Yu hasn' t left at all. Digital Rex is still a part of Sega. And what' s more the news of the Sammy buyout means all Sega studios are merging back together again to increase efficiency and remove administrative duplication etc, which means Suzuki is more " at" Sega than ever before. As for Shenmue 3, it is practically finished on paper, and just needs a green light. The green light was never going to come without a major change in the structure of Sega. And that' s exactly what the Sammy deal brings. So it' s no less likely to be greenlighted now that before, put it that way. I spoke to Yu-san at TGS last year and he assured me that his projects (at Digirex) were " going very well" . The only project anyone knew DR to be working on was Shenmue. I personally think it will happen at some point. It won' t be as expensive as the first two in development terms although marketing it effectively will be a big cost.

It is in development in my opinon because i am sure Yu Suzuki said Digital Rex would be showing their games at E3. They didnt show a thing meaning they have still got something to show. Why give DR the rights to Shenmue if they are going to do nothing with it. If DR announces a game which is not Shenmue then i will give up hope but until then i will not.

I have yet to pick up the second Shenmue, but the first certainly was a unique gaming experience. I' ve never had so much fun driving around a forklift before. I' ve yet to become a rabid fan of the series, but it amazes me how much talk about Shenmue 3 on message boards still goes on. It seems to have a serious cult following, so I hope it will be done. Would 3 mark the end of the story? Or do we even know.

Mute, Shenmue 2 was VASTLY superior to the first. If you have a X-Box you should pick it up.

but shouldn' t we be buying the new copy off of amazon.com so the money actually goes to supporting the series instead of lining EB' s pockets?

Hello everyone Im new here and this Topic stood out ;p Shenmue 3, I more then possitive it will be shown this Year I wasnt Expecting it at E3 like alot of people where. Shenmue and Shenmue 2 were Only shown at the Tokyo Game Show so it would only be Right SEGA show ever Shenmue game there.. Not breaking the cycle. Shenmue.com the offical Site was updated this year showing Shenmue is far from forgoten! If it isnt shown this year remember SEGA had some money problems the last years since the DC so they havent been able to always get out the games they wanted and had to settle for what they could. As Adam Said SEGA will Merge Sammy in October, Great news for SEGA, Sammy are loaded with cash SEGA and Sammy togeather will have more cash then Konami and EA so I have read. Which Means SEGA can go back to bringing out there best games at best Quolity and we will see our Shenmue 3 and 4 ect!

Hey Sharky, you seem a bit familiar. Shemue 3 had BETTER come out. I played through Shenmue 1 twice and Shenmue 2 3 times (twice on the DC, once on the Xbox). I loved both games and I love how boring and dull Ryo (occasionally pronounced " deeyo" for some messed up reason) is. I swear he' s not interested in girls or guys, is blind to the obvious, and has zero emotions. At least that' s the way he appears in the US dubs. The games still rock, though.

Well Yu Suzuki is still technically employed by Sega. In an interview not too long ago, he was asked about another Shenmue game, he replyed in a very somber tone ' not anytime soon' . The rumour of it being a CG movie, was just a rumour. I hope they will follow it up sometime soon. But with Sega' s current financial situation, and its restructuring etc, don' t expect it anytime soon. You should check out Shenmuedojo for latest news and rumours on Shenmue.
