Place your bets people, Who are you voting for? who will win in a few years time? this thread serves the purpose for those of us to say! " ha! I was right all along!" So you going to vote for Blue Ray or Hd-dvd? and ye have to give reasons. Personaly,I pick Blue Ray,Because with an install base as large as the ps3 market, it cant lose.

I hate them both, I vote for holographic discs. Untill those come out or either HD or BR get rid of their DRM protocols I' m sticking with good old DVDs.

HD-DVD is way ahead at the moment. The 360 HD-DVD drive is out in the US and will be out in 3 weeks in the EU, unless Sony can ramp up PS3 production about 3000% then Blu-Ray ain' t catching up any time soon.

HD-DVD is way ahead at the moment. how the hell is that possible? Ahead Please tell me how the hd-dvd is ahead the only advantage hd-dvd has is its cheaper than Blue Ray And for the Hd-dvd players I doubt there are a lot of them out there as the blue ray player maybe the 360 drive but for a stand alone player which can cost from $800 to 1000. ( Blue Ray Also ) Blue Ray packs more for the buck to me anyway

Read some comparative reviews, HD-DVD actually looks better, and the majority of people still feel there is no need for a new format.

Im hoping that was a joke. What installed base? It wasnt, clearly you know the Ps3 is going to sell into the millions, and every owner will have a blue ray player. I would think hd dvd would have a hard time trying to out sell the ps3. The differance between the two are small, blue ray has more space and the current hd-dvd movies are a small bit better quailty.

I' ll Give you some Advantages and Disadvantages No offense, but you dont know what youre talking about here. Sure I do But maybe I can learn Something new Mikay, go HERE and see Amazon' s realtime software sales. Nice Site I am not talking about sales I talking Future Proof And disc Capacity wise Blue Ray is the way to go when it come to HD-Content Trust me the more Space the better . It' s better to have the space than need the space and not have it. I dont see Hd-dvd as the better media But the software Side HD-DVD Seems to be taking off very well here' s an site I found that can explain things very well Thanks for that site majki its 2 years old lol I' ll do better later got to go here

With single, dual and triple layer discs by the end of next year, size, as far as movies are concerned won' t be an issue for either medium. If PS3 sells Blu-Ray movies then sure, Sony could end up dominating the home movie market, but Sony' s track record with things like this is dire. UMD is all but dead and that' s followed Beta Max and Mini Disc to the grave. Sony' s own DVD format lost out to Toshiba last time around, why would Blu-Ray be any different?! Shit, Beta-Max had more storage space than VHS and it still bombed. Size will only be an issue when it comes to recordable PC drives and they certainly won' t decide the winner as far as sales are concerned. Microsoft and Toshiba have made it so their HD-DVD drive can be used with PC' s. That means that they are releasing the cheapest next-gen DVD player, and since standalone players cost $500-$1200 (from HD-DVD - Blu-Ray) a $199 HD-DVD player has to be an awesome thing. Surely? Combo players will be available next year and so the format war won' t matter all that much. Sony must win though because if they don' t they could be royally screwed and PS3 won' t be able to help them. HD-DVD is ahead are far as sales are concerned, i probably should have made that clearer. Blu-Ray could very quickly catch up, but Sony would first need to get PS3' s into people homes and it' ll be 6-9 months before we' re talking potentially meaningful figures. Still, holographic discs will blow them both away and i' d actually like to see some 10+GB flash like cards. Discs suck in general and i' d rather have SD-esque cards instead.

Silentbomber: Place your bets people, Who are you voting for? who will win in a few years time? this thread serves the purpose for those of us to say! " ha! I was right all along!" Mr poom-tang magnet (Aug ' 06): What WE should be talking about is Blu-Rays inclusion in PS3 and whether that will make Blu-Ray successful or whether Blu-Rays potential failure in other markets could spell doom for Sony' s next gen games machine. ...k... ...by the end of 2008, 95% of people buying high def films will be doing so purely because of the PS3 in their lounges... ...almost no-one will be buying HD-DVD films because no one will be bothered to buy a dedicated player..... ....if HD-DVD behaves like DVD and drastically reduces it' s prices over the space of 3-5 years, Blu-ray might, finally, have some serious competition..... ....in short, Blu-ray will dominate for the next 2-3 years, then HD-DVD will likely fight back with DVD-like prices, which would be met shortly after with lower Blu-ray player prices and a $350 Premium PS3.... A few questions in regards to that: 1)Will buyers be buying the PS3 for mainly gaming or a cheap blu-ray player? ...both... ...just like what they did for PS2.... 2)How many do you need out there to warrent drops in price of production? -This is more of a spin-off to the fact on the recent production issues coming out latly. Basically asking is that first batch of just a few mil gonna hold up enough to bring costs down soon enough? ...i don' t know about actual amounts, but i' d expect the PS3 to behave like any other piece of high end consumer kit, and have its price reduced by $200 within 2 years of its release, which would be reduced for a second time maybe 18 months after the first reduction... 3)Even with all those players out there are people going to willingly pay $60+ for games in addition to $35+ for movies? ...i' d expect prices for PS3 games to be either the same as 360 or at a $5 premium, which to most people is more or less acceptable.... ...the same would apply to Blu-ray movies ($5 premium, annoying but acceptable) ...ha... ...i was right all along... ..

Sony are losing approx $300 per console, a price reduction ain;t happening soon, and $200 in 2 years would be virtually impossible. PSP hasn' t seen a price reduction because it costs them so much to make the damn things. PS3 is the same.
