PS3 is leaving behind the competition, says UK boss Maguire - Mar 23, 2007 10:19
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=23723

Sony UK boss Ray Maguire has told GamesIndustry.biz that the PlayStation 3 is stepping over the competition from rival Microsoft and Nintendo consoles.

For Maguire, the PlayStation 3 isn' t joining the party late, but leaving behind the Wii and Xbox 360 as it bounds into the true hi-definition entertainment world.

Ughh, is their arrogance contagious or what?? It would help if they included HD cables to actually enjoy those HD features.
Plus if its ' stepping over' the 360 (the Wii is not really in the discussion for obvious reasons) then why have we not seen any current ps3 game comprehensively beating any 360 game (namely GoW) graphically? What a clown!

Hey, don' t go raining on his parade. If he wants to live in a fairy tale world, where the flowers and grass have Sony logo' s on them then so be it. Who are you to say he can' t prance around with a sixaxis controller singing about " true HD" and " next gen entertainment" .

The same goes for Wii-boys. I don' t even try and think about what their fairy tale world involves..........they seem a bit too enthusiastic about the possible " uses" of the wii-mote if you get my drift.

Stay tuned for my next installment - what goes on in the Xbox360 fantasy land!
teaser - it involves Evil Man and Marcus Fenix, with sexy results!

Lol! The Wii' s legit, but it' ll take time for the major developers to start making games that really start to invovle the Wii-mote instead of just ports with tacked on Wiimote controls (ugh, Splinter Cell...).

Well thank you for that mental image [:' (] My fantasy is to have Evil Man gang-raped by dozens of Locusts, but that' s just me.

Oh yeah about the PS3 *sighs*

What were the stages of death?

Stage 1: Denial
Stage 2: Anger
Stage 3: Bargaining
Stage 4: Depression
Stage 5: Acceptance

Sony seems to be stuck on Stage 1...

*No, I don' t think the PlayStation would ' die' . It' s still PlayStation.*

Ok so Mr Maguire says the PS3, (Still can' t get the image of Chadwarden calling it the PS triple, sounds like a burger to me.) is going to trounce all other formats, shame he isn' t on here to answer this. When the 360 came out, my local Game stores and Tesco' s all sold out of their allocation weeks in advance, so why is it that I can go into both and for the princely sum of £424.75 pick up a console only from Tesco' s and for £477.99 pick up a PS3 bundled with Motorstorm. Oh by the way their allocation for the 360 was within 5 consoles of what they recieved for the PS3.

So far, the ONE thing that Sony/PlayStation got right is that Blu-Ray is indeed showing to be a more popular (tho not necessarily better) format than HD-DVD.

Last figures said it was a 3 to 1 ratio right?

Wow, I must have laughed at least five minutes without pause when I read that

The blu ray Vs HD DVD battle is so like Beta Vs VHS but in reverse . Beta was superior in quality, VHS cheaper to make.
HD DVD cheaper to make, Blu ray (alledgedly) better quality.

LOL, I couldn' t think of anything worth posting in that thread he was so ignorant.

The major difference here is that Neither HDDVD or BluRay made the huge f***-up that Betamax did. VHS dominated because you could record live television. Granted, there was quite a bit of screwy litigation surrounding that choice (" You mean my VCR is rewinding time?!" ) but it was financially sound.

Blu-Ray is winning IMO, because of the handful of PS3' s sold, and the large number of titles available.

Actually, from what I' ve heard, HDDVD is supposed to be using a better codec for video encoding, but I haven' t seen a side-by-side to really say much on the topic.

It does, however BluRay can use H.264/MPEG4 as well. It' s just that Sony supposedly has some sort of vested interest in the far wimpier MPEG2 codec. I think some BluRay discs do use MPEG4. Not sure which ones.

Sony viewed MP4 as being to costly for the first batch of movies and so used MPEG2 which resulted in slightly poorer quality compared to the same movies released on HD-DVD.

As far as i know most Blu-Ray movies are using MP4 now.
