Changed this from just a price-comparison, since I' m arguably one of the few people to have actually touched and played a game on a PS3
I HAVE pictures, but they' re on my phone, will upload later.
The store was just setting up the big display case, complete with a nice wide-screen HDTV, hooked up to a vertical standing PS3. It doesn' t look like a grill from that point, and it' s so thick it didn' t look like it' ll ever tip over. But if it did, it' ll prolly kill a lot of children.
Anyway, one controller is hooked up to the machine. First up, the store manager is demonstrating some of the various features of the PS3 to an interested guy. Some movie trailers, like Harry Potter and Spider man 3. Then, alot of cat pictures. Whose cat, the store-guy' s cat? Phil Harrison' s cat? Who knows, and most importantly, who the hell cares (apparently the buyer; cos he was looking at the image tab for a longer time than the movie trailers).
After that, the store manager puts in the Genji game into the machine and starts her up!
Ha, yeah, Genji. NOT the best game to showcase the ' power' of the PS3. I mean really; it' s not about the gameplay since it' s just meant to demonstrate the capabilites of the PS3. So you' re really looking for graphics, slick smooth textured bump-mapped lighted flawless particle-effects graphics.
And besides some nice fire (GLOWS of fire, I didn' t see actual fire), Genji looks like Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox. Seriously, the character models had fusing polygons, the textures were flat and hardly bump-mapped. Everything looked totally not next-gen except for nice facial animation.
Conversation I overhead between the two store clerks:
Clerk #1: Is this a demo?
Clerk #2: No, full game.
Clerk #1 shrugs.
I suggested a change of game, like Oblivion, Burnout, something else. But store guy doesn' t listen
Anyway, after some school kids play around, it' s my turn.
PS3 controller doesn' t feel as light and floaty as I thought it' ll be. It' s roughly the same weight and feel as a Playstation pre-Dual Shock controller.
Too bad Sixaxis controller wasn' t enabled. I read that Genji was supposed to have dodging linked to the Sixaxis control, so I tried jerking around. Nada.
Turns out it' s mapped to the second analog stick which led to a
big problem.
The f**king camera! I was blind slashing the entire time because the camera couldn' t move!
The controller also seemed slightly unresponsive. Could be a handling problem, or possibly...I was holding an old store-front PS2 controller because they didn' t bother to unpack the PS3 Sixaxis lol. I didn' t take notice of the label on the controller; my bad. I' ll check again next time I go there.
Anyway, some good things. The graphics are sweet on the HDTV. Load times are nice and short (although the sparsity of the actual stages explain that; in which case the load times should be non-existent).
I only could fiddle for a while; turns out there' s that 1 hour PS3 demo rule here in Singapore too
Prices in Sing. dollars Xbox 360 bundle (Premium 360, two controllers, one game) - $699
PS3 bundle (*prolly* 20 GB model, one controller, one game) - $799
Wii (one Wii-mote, Nunchuk included; game depends on outlet) - $499
I was boneheaded. I forgot to ask which model the PS3 was! But it' s prolly 20 GB judging by the price.
Now
Prices in US dollars X360 - 457.523 USD
PS3 - 522.977 USD
Wii - 326.631 USD
Hm, the Wii' s relative more expensive than in the US, but the PS3' s slightly cheaper from the $599 price-point.
Since the PS3' s region-free (except for the Blu-Ray/DVD player), you guys might consider importing it lol.
